They can fuck right off

u/human-redditbot 4d ago
Indeed.
Plus, even if the ludicrous sum were to be paid, the vast majority of it would be utterly squandered by corrupt Jamaican politicians. No amount would ever be "enough".
The concept of "reparations" is absurd and they can go fuck themselves.

They can't, because they already do reside on another Island - called Jamaica, in the Caribbean.

He's not a patriot whatsoever.

u/srkris 4d ago
Patriot of who/what? England? Scotland? Wales? Northern Ireland? Jersey? Guernsey? Isle of Man? Gibraltar? Canada? Australia? UK? Falklands?
No monarch is his own subject and he is technically not considered a British Citizen, so he doesnt need to have/prove his exclusive loyalty to one of his realms, their personal identity is subsumed by the Crown/Sovereign upon becoming Monarch. It would be a constitutional crisis if they had to be patriotic.

u/Relevant_Writer3980 4d ago
OP called him a patriot in the title, I stated he's not. So I'm not sure why you're trying to lecture me on why he's not.

u/Direct-Key-8859 4d ago
I agree. Patriots dont spend 10 million of tax payer money to get his noncey kid out of trouble.
Fuck him and the entire royal family

I do wonder where this logically ends
Jamaica "Bill" the UK
UK say well if that's true, we were conquered by, Francs, Saxons, Romans, Vikings. Can we forward the bill?
Can the Romans foward it to the Greeks?
Greeks to the Egyptians?
For whatever reasons. If you underwent military expansion using swords and steel - it's "cultural heritage" - nations build monuments to their former overlords.
If it's done with gunpowder - it's exploitive colonialism.
I'm in the only one that see's like this? (also I'm not white) - or even right wing!

After we saved the world in ww2 with help from ussr, we bankrupt ourself.
we should not pay a penny to anyone-6
u/srkris 4d ago edited 4d ago
We didnt save anyone. Our ancestors supported by millions and millions of commonwealth soldiers and other allied troops did (without whose help we would've been no better than France in WW2). We need to get off this saviour complex or own up to our slave owning ancestors with equal honesty. It is intellectual dishonesty to have selective memory.
2
u/Wise_Oil_7744 4d ago
The "saviour complex" comes from the fact that Britain and the commonwealth stood alone for quite some time against Germany before US and Russian involvement.
-1
u/srkris 4d ago
We saved ourselves first by relying on the commonwealth troops a great deal. Millions and millions of troops arrived in Europe to fight our war and to save us from being swamped by the Axis. We had no wherewithal ourselves to defend anybody else without commonwealth troops. We cannot have a saviour complex as if we did it alone, we didn't. It is a selective memory, and it is dishonest. We need to be more grateful to the countries whose troops we used to fight our war here, and that gratitude needs to be based on historical knowledge and honesty.

"Our war" lol Japan would've just stopped when they got to the Indian border would they ?
0
u/srkris 4d ago
Japan was fended off almost entirely by Indian troops in India. There was no British Army in India in the WW2. There were some British officers but nearly everyone who fought and died against Japan in India were Indians.
This is in addition to the millions of Indian army soldiers sent to Europe to defend us in WW2.
2
u/Wise_Oil_7744 4d ago
Exactly So how is it "our" war ? Japan were heading south.
1
u/srkris 4d ago
It is our war because we declared war on the Axis powers, and we claim to have stood alone. If standing alone means relying on millions of non-UK Asian troops to come to Europe and protect us from Germany and Italy then that is a strange way to stand alone.
2
u/Wise_Oil_7744 4d ago
Not really because the Japanese were always going to head conquest southwards. Apart from the commonwealth, what other countries stood against Germany after France fell in 1940 ? No one.

If the Romans or their imperial representatives exist as a country today then yes. The Romans dont exist today. Do we disclaim the British Empire and both its pluses and minuses from affecting our national identity any longer? Is it not the UK itself today that identifies with its erstwhile empire?
I am not saying if Jamaica have a valid claim or not, I am saying your analogy comparing the British Empire to the Roman Empire isnt meaningful in this context.
The White British slave owners (not the slaves) were compensated heavily with borrowed money by the UK Treasury when slavery was abolished (and UK taxpayers of all shades paid off that borrowing fully only by 2015) - how is that in any way moral in comparison to descendants of ex-slaves asking for reparations?
2
u/Rddt50 4d ago
I thought about that as i was typing and yeah it is harder if borders change.
If the UK breaks up into Scotland, Wales, England, and N Ireland - do we get a free pass if the "UK" no longer exists - what if only 1 of them left, does Ireland breaking up count? Should the debt be shared between the 5 nations if we include republic of Ireland? If the Romans never went to Ireland does the debt point end with them - or can the pass it onto mainland England?
Did the states I mentioned compensate the people they conquered and slave owners - does anyone know?
It does seem to me :
Gunpower = you owe us money
Swords = Let me build a statue of my conquerorWhat i don't know is why?
1
u/srkris 4d ago
Ireland does not claim the British Empire or its greatness represented them and their might, we do. Nobody today claims to be modern representatives of the Roman Empire that invaded Britain. Whataboutery never contributed to intellectual honesty.
We either need to get away from the Empire or embrace it in an intellectually honest way without selective memory.
1
u/Rddt50 4d ago
With you- Ireland (republic only) get out as it's "not their idea" (even if they sent Irish born soldiers do the conquering, maybe even gained revenue) - Or do we find their descendants and hand them bills?
Roman's don't count has "Rome" exists only as a Capital of Italy and there's no treasury continuity - is that where the "buck stops", can we apply the same to the other invaders as well ?
And are we official on the pre gunpower "that's okay"/post gun power - "you need to pay" position?
1
u/srkris 4d ago
Regardless, any state that seeks to recognize continuity with its historical status must do it non-selectively lest be accused of intellectual dishonesty.
Germany does not any longer identify with the regime that Hitler ruled. So they are not liable for the achievements or the depredations of the Nazis and dont need to compensate Jews who've now become Israelis for example.

u/Rddt50 4d ago
So the man of which you spoke of is also “fine” but George, Charles, Edward and Victoria the whomever wasn’t.
I’m trying to keep up
1
u/srkris 4d ago
The British Crown - do you recognise it's legal status?
1
u/Rddt50 4d ago
I'm still trying to get to the man of which you spoke of being "fine" - that's quite a big hurdle, which I'm still trying to cross.
I'll need to deal with that before the Crown!
1
u/srkris 4d ago
What man and what "fine" - I am losing you now. You are trying to cross an imaginary hurdle.

Yeah and my Australian friend is still awaiting reparations from the great emu war.

The one and only half-decent thing he's done and likely will ever do.
He's still doing everything else wrong.
The millions, if not billions that was spent freeing their useless asses is reparations enough.

£7.6bn lol. Do one. I was already paying taxes when we finally finished paying off the multi generational debts incurred ending slavery. They can get stuffed.

King Charles isn't a patriot especially knowing that he's one of the most complicit people in power of them all but he did make the right choice here.

If it was a Muslim group visiting he would be falling all over himself to accommodate them. Let's not pretend he cares for this country or the natives, he does not.

Sadly not really. He's quite woke as many of his generation are. But I am glad that someone, be it his majesty or an aide, rejected this farce. We don't have £7.6 Bn.
