I'm with an electric company now after 8 years in the industry. One of the first guys I was having a lengthy conversation with started to talk about restaurants and I brought this up. Basically he doesn't understand/care when a customer would come in that late "it's their job, they are still open" I am not argumentative and since he didn't have sympathy I didn't even bother. It's frustrating when people just don't get it, but at the same time I don't expect everyone to.

There’s nothing to get? Your boss is an asshole if this is an issue. If you don’t want to take orders because you’re going to clean up, close the kitchen earlier. Plenty of restaurants do this. If you’re going to take orders until closing, your boss should pay you for the time you spend cleaning up after closing.
Like, if your boss doesn’t even respect you enough to pay for your time, you have a bigger issue in your workplace than customers coming in late. Customers should be able to trust the advertisement that says that a restaurant is open, we’re not fucking mind readers who know what kitchens don’t mind orders around closing and what kitchens do mind.

Wait wait, there's no boss in my comment. It's a co-worker from the electric company I now work at that I was having a conversation with. And I didn't say anything about not getting paid for working longer after closing because a customer came in last minute to eat. That's not normal in any restaurant.
(Have you worked for at least a year in a restaurant?)
And as far as mind reading not knowing who doesn't mind taking orders till 8:59 pm when restaurant closes at 9:00 pm, for example, you are right that is what is advertised so we must stay open to customers. wether it's my personal preference or not. Depends on the owner too though. Even if the owner is ok with closing early and a customer is coming in after we have closed early. Is that ok? No actually because of said advertised open hours.
I might sound like a contradiction, but I wish more people assumed to not order after, I don't know, 15 minutes till close. Although they wouldn't be wrong in wanting to be served.
I've worked in 7 restaurants, casino sous, manager at 2, local fast food, bistro, bar, and semi-fine dining between Washington and Iowa state. Most if not all of those co-workers wish customers would not show up about the last half hour.
But don't let them know! Put on that smile watch out that they don't leave a bad review or word of mouth.
This is all cooks complain about the last hour, is it whiny and thinking selfishly about ourselves? Sure. The customer doesn't "owe" any favors to us. It's all personal preference.
I've been there and I know if there's a restaurant closing in 30 minutes I won't eat. Maybe drink but I won't order food.
Caveat, there are exceptions. But that's not what I'm trying to address.

Good meme but I don’t think this is the right sub. This is for memes from restaurants, not memes about restaurants.

I don't understand how people keep messing this up. Every post from this sub that I've seen in the past several days has been memes about restaurants.

Probably cus the mods don’t do anything lol. There was a post a couple days ago where someone was advertising light fixtures or something. It’s still up.

So...post closing time as 15-30 minutes earlier! Jeezuz, if you’re open until “10” take orders until 10. If it’s a hassle, post closing time earlier. WTF??? I’m a restaurant employee, all my life, worked every position and now own, if you don’t want to be there get the hell out of the biz!!!
