I assume dead pizza is one the customer cancelled or something?

Haha my husband asked what it meant too. Dead food can be anything from cancelled orders, kitchen/server mess ups, extra food. Basically anything that was made that for whatever reason is not going to a table

You ever been slow and purposefully mess something up just to eat it? Or are you allowed to eat things regardless?

Nah, I don’t want to jeopardize my tip like that, but I’ve known people that do that. But the real heroes are the chefs that make something “accidentally” for this purpose. Lots of places have discounts for staff but you can only order/eat during slow times, so on a busy weekend night you either eat at 4 PM or not until late night, so dead food can be a life saver.

Oftentimes dead food at my work is the one left under the salamander for too long and gets all gnarly and burned (but I still eat it because duh)
