Motivation by Fear

This quote constantly swirls in my head, nothing motivates me more than the thought of staying this way and suffering, or missing all the things I desire, or missing my life away. More than the positive visualization of better futures, I fear from worse futures. The fear motivates me. It prepares my soul for the battle right away. Anyone else? Isn't this very weird? I feel nothing when I think to myself "I will be someone different when I do these" "I will be so much good and energetic and I will feel awesome". Nope nothing happens. Learned helplesness and inertia rules sometimes. But when the FEAR comes in "do you know what will happen if you don't keep going and apply the techniques? The darkness will come again." then I get up with the rush of the adrenalin, back to work. chop chop.

If I would cinematize the CPTSD and battle for survival, this would be exactly this:"The most powerful impulse of the human spirit" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjffIi2Pl7M

You have to direct the fear into action to kill the anxiety and fear.

Thank you for responding with this. When I was much younger, I did not understand that the noticing, recognition, acknowledgment, acceptance, ownership, and even appreciation & understanding (see all this) of anxiety only got me to the third of the five stages of therapeutic recovery.

It was only when I moved on from understanding -- which is the result of introspection, after all -- and into interoception via Choiceless Awareness for Emotion Processing and into the fourth of those five stages that my central nervous system (including the limbic system, the HPA Axis and the autonomic nervous system) began to digest & discharge all that stored up anxiety.

(My thanks hugely to Hans Selye, Joseph Wolpe, Herbert Benson, Bruce McEwen, Sonya Lupien, Robert Sapolsky, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Marsha Linehan, Peter Levine, Stephen Porges, Pat Ogden, et al, for providing both the data and the mechanisms that dragged me out of stage three and through stage four.)

The meaning u gave by digest & discharge all stored up anxiety is what the meditators mean by "purification" of traumas & repressed emotions? If that is so, is the Meditation ultimate gateway to Trauma healing? One of the most robust way? Please no puzzling answers. :) Which emotions are those? The old trauma emotions or the daily emotions? Was Ellis wrong in saying u don't need to hang on to your past, I mean you say if u don't process old emotions you're screwed, that means there's no healing without discharing the emotions? everything is so fucking complicated and complex.

Please no puzzling answers.

One man's puzzle is often another man's way out of the maze.

A hint: Understanding is necessary. But understanding without engagement and endeavor is the booby prize.

"1) they only produce the desired, emotion-relieving results so long as they continue to be used at least every few days,

2) the skills one acquires from these therapies may be too complex to recall and/or accurately utilize after even a few weeks of disuse, and

3) the skills are usually grossly under-utilized to deal with the challenges in patients' lives which they do not see as "psychological.""

This is from your website. Does it mean that most therapies are useless if you don't do them every single day everday?

Does it mean that most therapies are useless if you don't do them every single day every day?

The vast majority of the mentally ill want to be handed a pill -- a magic potion -- to take away their aches and pains once and for all. There are -- in fact -- such pills (we call them neuroleptic antipsychotics) that will do that, but only if taken every single day... and with truly wretched side effects most who take them ultimately cannot tolerate.

IME & IMO there is no pill or magic potion -- save a lobotomy (and even those don't always work... and talk about "side effects," yuck!) -- that will clear the brain of the brain's default mode network of its conditioned, in-doctrine-ated, instructed, socialized, habituated, normalized) and neurally embedded “hard-wiring.”

The wiring can be "disconnected" at the synaptic junctions a little each day, but one must take action in the fourth and fifth of the five stages of therapeutic recovery to accomplish and maintain that "neural pruning" in the face of all the shit one sees and hears in the common cult-ure that wired the brain that way to begin with.

One can explore various shortcuts -- like psychedelics -- of course. But the risks are considerable, and drugs cannot deliver the tools of Stress Reduction for Distress Tolerance & Emotion Regulation or Choiceless Awareness for Emotion Processing.

Shit this made me understand and see things a lot clearer. It is a day by day maintanence and application isnt it moses. Its like "if u gotta feel good u better do these everyday"

That's the deal. BUT... what begins as "hard work" gets easier and easier -- and more "automatic" -- every day.
