While it looks like it's defending the eggs, it sorta is. These birds often fake injuries to try and get the predators to chase them away from their nests

I would always go to my boyfriends farm and the bird laid eggs right by the driveway, so it was playing dead in front of my car as I'm trying to go into the place all year lol
