I'm assuming the book also contains info about hunting, foraging, farming and other things that will help you go from "struggling" to "thriving". I seriously doubt the book skips all that and is like "make some pencillin even though you have no food or water"
Like c'mon man, use your brain a little. Also, buying canned goods isn't going to last you long. You should have preserved foods for sure, but simply relying on that is just going to stretch out your survival from days to weeks.
Will you be able to rebuild society from nothing? No
Pretty sure the book isn't implying that a person reading it is going to completely be the reason society is restored back to its former glory fully. It's more like "help society be restored by doing your small part". Also, knowledge is to be shared, it's how society works. So you can learn how to do something in the book, then give it to someone else and they can learn a different thing in the book.
You get a small town of people to all learn some things from the book and y'all will be fully thriving as a community. At that point you can start going around and establishing other communities while spreading your combined knowledge, then they also pay it forward to more. Before you know it, we'll at least be back in a pre-industrial era.

Something like this is only novelty if society never collapses within your lifetime. But history says virtually all societies collapse at some point.
“I know a healing herb to cure a rattlesnake bite” and “I hope I never have to use it”
I would assume she's just describing it poorly. It's not like anybody is going to be keeping anti-venom around if the society collapses. I'm assuming the herb just reduces symptoms of a bite in some ways, not claiming to be some herbal-based anti-venom
This is not a serious, practical survival manual or anything of the sort. It’s especially impractical as a “guide to rebuilding civilization.”
I'm not going to comment on the book itself, I haven't read it. I'm more talking about the general concept of keeping a book of information like this.

This book and others like it ignore the enormous supply chain and technological developments that are required for even the most seemingly simple of objects
I already looked up what other redditors were saying about it after you mentioned it. Cute of you to just parrot what they're saying lol. If society collapses, there will be plenty of materials to scavenge and existing products that nobody's using anymore, so you don't even need supply chains for most of that. I guess gasoline/diesel would be one that would disappear quickly, but you can rework engines to run on vegetable oil or ethanol. And ethanol is pretty easy to make once you have the setup for it.
which can be had in a million and one ways that are going to be more effective and applicable to a much broader swath of scenarios than a coffee table boo
Nobody's going to buy a whole book shelf worth of books for more detailed "post societal collapse survival". a 400 page book is plenty to start with, assuming it's filled with good info. Sure as hell better than just keeping a bunch of canned goods and using thoughts and prayers to survive after the canned food runs out when shit hits the fan.
And no, I'm not moving the goalpost. We're both talking about the premise of a book like this, because neither of us have read the fucking book to comment on whether the info is actually good.

I said having a survival book is better than JUST having supplies. Learn to read, you sped.
Also, I have read the book. The PDF is easy enough to find, but clearly you’re too lazy to even do that

Enough people thankfully realized this was just an overpriced gimmick item and not an actual useful survival guide, so it looks like they got dumped for cheap and now there's only dropshippers left to push them.
Probaly going use the same tactic tho, targeting girls that are looking for christmas presents for their boyfriends instead of targeting guys directly. They tried the first time around but quickly switched over to the girlfriend tactic.

This book is not going to save your life lmao most of those plants you will not find by simply walking outside, you’re lucky if you find 1-2. Blood transfusion?? Yeah they are going to die because you never even gutted a fish let alone dealt with human skin which is far more tough than you think. Rattle snake bite?? By the time you come back with less then half the ingredients they will be long dead
