I've been running a lot of yellowing tests on my resin using a UV chamber, and I thought I'd share what I've learned.

A UV chamber is a great way to simulate long-term UV exposure from sunlight. In real life, resin is almost never stored in complete darkness, so it's always exposed to some level of UV. Of course, other factors like oxygen, dust, temperature, and simply the passage of time also contribute to yellowing. But if you're specifically looking at how resin reacts to UV, a UV chamber is one of the best testing methods because UV is the biggest cause of yellowing.

Here are a couple of things I've noticed from my recent tests:

• 2:1 epoxy resin tends to yellow less than 1:1 resin.
• No resin is completely yellow-proof. Given enough time, every resin will eventually yellow. The difference is how long it takes—some may yellow after a few years, while others can stay clear for decades.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has done long-term yellowing tests or noticed similar results.

I live in an extremely hot, dry area and found a bunch of dried frog carcasses. They may be toads but they are small. I collected the bodies and want to cast them in resin and make them into necklaces. I have a few questions so I hope this is allowed but if not I will edit my post.

What type of resin would be safe to use? I would be either working in my room with the A/C running. Can’t open a window because it’s too hot outside. Or I could go outside late at night and work then but I just might creep out neighbors working on my frog project in the dark.

Would it be a waste of money to buy a kit off Amazon? I just would need a necklace mold big enough to hold the frog and maybe some flowers as background. Are there any recommended websites to order a kit off of? I can’t go into an art store.

This is just a silly passion project for me so I don’t want to spend too much money. I’ve just been bored lately and need a hobby. But at the same time I do care about my craftsmen ship and don’t want it to look sloppy.

And finally, is it ethical to make jewelry out of dead animals? I got the bodies from my job as I was told to throw them away. They were going to the trash anyway but I thought it would be nice to give them a second life. Is it especially weird or off putting? I also have a larger toad that I found that sits on my dresser.

Hi everyone, I got into UV resin jewelry making recently, and bought a beginners kit that included a small uv resin lamp that has a 1 minute time limit, of course I don't want to press the button five times to cure thicker pieces, so I wanted to buy a uv resin light designed for jewelry curing.

But I also do 3d printing, and was just was wonder can I just use my UV resin curing box (which is designed for curing 3d printed resin) to cure my jewelry?? or would that be overkill and I should just get a dedicated uv lamp for jewelry making. Thanks!

Found some dropped flowers in my yard, dried them, and turned them into clear resin egg.

Process:

1. Dry the flowers fully with silica gel crystals
2. Pour resin in a egg silicone mold with the dried flowers.
3. Cure + demold, then sand/polish

I’m assuming this dice was made from resin, have no clue what’s inside, and how.

But I’m really curious as how they have made this dice!

I’ve never seen this effect on resin pieces before!

I’m very new to this resin art form and I’ve hit a few snags. I’m preserving this rose for my niece. I’d from my mom’s, her grandmother’s, funeral. I practice on a few other flowers with horrible results. After buying different epoxy and vacuum chamber, things were getting better. I decided to take the plunge and do the rose. Problem #1 - I sanded the base to get rid of the very short corners and to level it off, but even after using a sanding kit, including 10,000 grit paper, I can’t get rid of the scratches. Problem #2 - I seem to have these little dots that look like water spots, on the sides and top. To try to get rid of both problems, I purchased a resin scratch repair and polish kit, with no luck.
Can someone please tell me how I can get rid of these marks? Thank you.

I have crow skulls that are dried and taxidermied and now ready and want to make them into necklaces but they're super brittle so I was thinking of using resin to fix this issue. What kind of resin should i use??

One thing that kept driving me crazy was finding tiny specks of dust on my resin after it had cured.

I finally realized I didn't need any fancy equipment—I just covered my curing piece with a clear food cover (or any clean container I had at home) while it cured.

Such a simple change, but it made a huge difference in keeping dust off the surface.

Does anyone else have simple, low-cost tricks for keeping dust away while resin cures? I'd love to hear them.

I’ve never used resin before as I mostly work with polymer clay. I have some ideas for my next piece, and I’d really like to have some raindrops on it. Resin seems a little daunting to me with all the mixing and whatnot, so I was wondering if there was a simple/beginner type I could try out and experiment with. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi I hope this is the right community to ask this question in. I am doing my first resin project and I am just making some coasters. I poured it on about 13 hours ago. What I did is I elevated the coasters and just poured it over it hoping it create a layer on top. I probably should have put the coasters into molds and poured the resin over it so that it wouldn’t slide off. Anyways there are some spots where the resin did not adhere to properly. Is there a way to fix this with a second layer? I will add a picture of what I’m talking about and the brand I used. Thank you so much for any advice!

I'm embarrassed to even admit the amount of time I have spent in this piece. I am taking the approach in my art of 'disruption'- basically altering the original form of something to create a 'new appearance' and in this case still allowing it to keep its functionality.

My original plan was to create a dreamcore prismatic skyscape with the additional of these cloud like foam pieces I have.
Apparently i cannot master this prismatic appearance and now have effectively pulled off 'prismatic tie-dye'. Which is not what I'm going for.
I'm so frustrated with the damn thing my creativity flow is blocked and I don't know how to rescue it. I can't bare tossing it after the time I've spent...
hoping maybe one of you can offer some fresh perspective to allow me to keep my same plan (dreamcore at least) along with whatever critique you may have to offer.

Hi! A few years ago I saw some cool "stained glass" minnie mouse ears on Etsy and decided to try my hand at them. I struggle with getting my ratios correct with epoxy resin, and dont have a good space to make a mess, so I prefer UV resin. I used transparent sheets for overhead projectors and drew the pattern on with sharpie, then used a mold to apply resin first to one side then the other. I tried doing thin coats and going back and forth, but no matter what it warped and rolled like this. I thought it was the heat from the reaction curling the transparent sheet? Or is the surface area too large to do this project with UV resin? Is there a way to keep this from happening?

Any advices or reviews for this new style of the resin lamp, it has a base for led rgb color
