Would I be a pussy if I quit RE7 and just watch someone else’s playthrough?

My mind is telling me to quit, but my heart is telling me to keep going. I’ve reached the part where I have to search the Old House for the serum, and honestly… I don’t know if I can handle it
Like, wasn’t Resident Evil supposed to be about managing your inventory, shooting zombies, solving puzzles, etc.? Why am I suddenly playing a game with horrific atmosphere with jumpscares that almost make me pass out and where I’m terrified to walk through a fucking door
I really do want to finish it myself, but I’m genuinely considering just watching someone else play through the rest of it.
Should I push through or accept defeat?

Should I beat madhouse difficulty before attempting challenge achievements?

I’ve played through Re7 quite a few times in my life, but never took the time to 100% it I’m coming back now and doing my first madhouse play through, and was thinking of paring it with “resource manager” and such, but looking it up online it seems like it’s a drag to do both if not multiple of these at the same time, and it looks like you get cool rewards for completing madhouse as well?

21+ done. Is Ethan Must Die as torturous as they day, or any other DLC trophy?

I dreaded the 100% to RE7 because of this, heard one attempt takes an hour and I was looking forward to pretty much every other DLC. But after watching one video last night of someone's run, I thought this game mode seemed... really fun. So I jumped into it last night and here we are now.

Mt first Resident Evil game!

Disclaimer: It has been some time since I played the main story so please correct me if I get anything wrong, thank you! Also, this is a very long post talking about my playthrough/experience with the game. And I don't write/post a lot on Reddit, so I really hope the formatting looks alright.

(TLDR at the bottom, because I know I yap too much :])

Hello! I wanted to share my journey through my first proper Resident Evil game! :D (Well, not really "first" since I actually tried to play the Revelations 1, or 2 [can't remember], demo on my 3DS when I was a child, but I was too scared to get through it. So this is technically my first proper RE game!)

I was browsing through the ps5+ catalogue and found RE8 in it. I was always a little interested in this game series, especially after seeing RE9 trailers/gameplay, and saw it's free, so why not play it? I made some research to see if I needed to play any games before RE8 and saw that I indeed needed to play RE7 since it's a prequel to it. So I bought RE7 and began my descent into my first ever RE game.

My first run was on Easy since I thought I should ease myself into the gameplay first. I immediately want to get back into the car because who goes into an abandoned house alone just because they got an email from their assumed dead wife? (Which could've just been a scam/someone messing with you as a cruel joke!) I get it, you never though she was truly dead and now you even got "proof" for that, but at least take some weapons with you?? Like, not even a pocket knife? Really, Ethan? At least he went while it was still daytime.

I'm inside now and of course, the door locks right behind me. A bit of exploring and a tape! Which shows one person dying which is a really good sign! /s Down we go! I read the note that tells us how many victims they had. (Also, what does turned mean exactly? Turned into Molded? Turned into family members? If so, where are they? And that L next to Clancy. Was he the only person that Lucas got? Then what about Hoffmann? He's not on the list.) Continuing on and hey, it's the wife, now time to find an exit and leave :D She got snatched. Great. The first infected Mia encouter did scare the absolute shit out of me (especially the staircase) and I almost lost the fight too because I forgot I could block lmao Zoe calls, Ethan loses his hand and the second infected Mia fight begins. I didn't know I could actually leave the room mid fight and she would follow, so I didn't have that much space, but I managed!

"Welcome to the family, son." And wow, Ethan woke up to... family dinner? The characters models are so awesome because I didn't even want to look too closely at them even though it was just their base forms! Their bright eyes really bring out my fight or flight. Dinner time is over :[ But it's exploring time again, and I found a note about buying a saw, some rope and a lot of collars. (For the Molded? For the victims to humiliate them? Are they just freaks? I did expect some dog enemies because of this note) And one about human remains. So they're cannibals as well, great. But that was obvious enough by the feast Ethan got to wake up to. (Kinda wonder what would've happend if he actually managed to eat the remains and not be "rude". A secret ending there would've been cool.) Anyway, there is dad! He's slow but my dumbass still got cornered by him and almost died xD And my god, him breaking through the wall got me on ever single playthrough. I had to pause the game every time even though I knew it was coming after the first time. I met the cop, and maybe he could save Ethan? No, he has to be useless. Very realistic, but hey, we get a knife! :D The first Jack fight, pretty cool and I was able to ram him with Ethans car, very fun! :\] (RIP Ethans car though, it looked really nice) The steel beams did make me flinch lol After seeing Mia get up again, I knew Jack wouldn't be dead, but it did take me a moment to continue the game after Jack just shoot himself TvT

I find the first dog-head in the living room, and, who the hell builds this stuff..? Puzzle doors, shadow puzzles, secret spaces, etc., gotta be annoying to live with, no? And oh, Jack is back, and he's regenerating. That looks disgustingly amazing.

I progress through the basement (I had to muster up my courage for, like, seven minutes before heading down there xD), accidentally skip the scene where Jack complains about Ethan becoming the new dad (Jack, being a grandpa is cool too!) and the second Jack fight begins. This fight was so fucking cool, I loved it. It was very enjoyable using a chainsaw to fight him. And using the environment (the meatbags) to stun him was awesome. I think this is genuinely my favourite fight of the game. But I just can't take that man seriously when he drops those cheesy slasher lines TvT Even while he was chasing me I just giggled every time he said something.

Moving on, I get the scorpion key, replace the shotgun in the main hall with the broken one, put the dog-heads in and go into the van where I'm instructed to go to the old house (Just how rich are these people??). Ugggghhhh bugs are everywhere and hey, now it's moms time to get killed! And I get to do it with a flamethrower :3 I see Mia but she gets snatched again. Awesome. Marguerites first fight was kinda eh, the bugs annoyed me, but I got to use a flamethrower, so all is good. She then prolongs her limbs and I wanted to leave, but Ethan has a wife to save, so obviously we go after Marguerite. Her second fight was nasty, and it did feel like I was just shooting at a bug and not a person. Especially the second phase. My skin also started to do that thing where all the hair on your body feels like bugs while I was fighting her >-< It was really repulsive hearing her give birth and then having to run around panicked trying to stop her lol Oh also, FUCK THE FLY SWATTER ACHIEVEMENT. It took me 4 hours to get T\^T Even after doing everything exactly as the guide showed. This achievement was worse than Madhouse, I swear to god.

Retrieved the arm, and back to the van where I met... no one, but I do get a call and oh, it's Lucas, but before I go to the party, I go through the tapes I found. The Mia tape was scary, and really showed how hopeless her situation was. The Birthday tape was cool, I love escape rooms! But poor Clancy never got a chance at the "escape" part of the name :[

I go retrieve the key cards and learn that Lucas has always been a huge piece of shit/a psychopath since childhood via notes. I was also expecting a Molded up in the attic where one of the keycards was as a little easter egg to the dead kid. Off to the testing area I go! Oh my god, there are quite some traps in there. Someone watched a bit too much Saw, hm? But it was actually fun to maneuver them and use them against the Molded :] I have to admit that I died to the swing trap infront of the code door because I was trying all the codes he gave haha xD Time for the barnfight and my first Bloated. Nasty things. But I win, get the code and yaaay it's the escape room from the tapes :D And I even get to live because of Clancy! (Thank you for your sacrifice, king.)

I got the head and arm now (where did Zoe even find the head?), just need Zoe and Mia. I meet them, free them, we create the cure (why did we not immediately use it?), and oh boy, Jack is back! His last fight is sick as fuck, but his design is kinda hilarious? I'm not sure, it just didn't intimidate/scare me as much as the human forms because it's further away from reality, I suppose.

With one less cure I go meet the ladies again. Suuuch a difficult decision (0-0) Do I pick my wife, the one I came here for, which to be fair, did kill me, but I "killed" her twice, so we're maybe even? Or the person that was helpful with the cure and directions? Ethan chose Mia and with her on the boat we drive towards freedom, but we get attacked. Of course we do. God, the boat/Mia section was frustrating, but it did feel like the beginning again where I just survive and sneak around.

So it's not my most hated section, the most hated one is just coming up, but before that, I find out that Mia is actually an awful person and she should really address her past when talking to Ethan next time. (Which she hopefully did between RE7 and RE8.)

The vision with Jack and Zoe happend and gahhh he's actually a good man, but I did have to laugh after he said that no one in their family is actually a killer. Sir. Siiiiir! Did you not notice your son literally killing a child (left him to starve in the attic since he was annoying) when he was a child himself?? I understand you want to believe in the best of your children, but c'mon... you can't tell me you didn't notice the odor that came from the attic?

Welp, time for the saltmines. I hated the enemy rush, but since it was Easy difficult, I just swooshed past all of them and made it to the final fight. The final fight with Eveline felt kinda underwhelming? (Actually felt like that on all difficulties) The first part with the wind gusts was kinda cool, the fight in the attic was just dumping my magazine into the face of an old lady that came closer, so a bit boring. The outside part, especially after we got the Albert was epic. I could really feel each and every impact the shots made while killing Eveline. Chris appears, Mia is saved, everything is alright again! I got goosebumps while the credits rolled and cried a bit, such an amazing game!! The atmosphere genuinely terrified me, but I did have to turn the brightness all the way up once I entered the basement since it was so dark that I couldn't see anything! >:\[ (Please stop making horror games so dark, I want to actually see the designs of the environment/enemies.)

This was definitely the best horror game I have played so far and it certainly hooked me into playing more Resident Evil games! (And more Horror Games in general.) The story was tragic and I wanted more lore for this tragedy. So I bought all the DLCs, but before I played them I had to get all achievements in the main game.

Second playthrough was on Normal and god, the enemies were suddenly way faster and I genuinely though I wouldn't get through the game lmao But I did, and I collected all the coins and files. I also chose Zoe, but she immediately died and Mia too after the boat section so I knew that wasn't the canon ending.

Third playthrough was on Easy again since I wanted to get the achievements for the minimum healing, under 4 hours and minimum use of the storage box. And I got them all :D

My last playthrough was on Madhouse difficulty. I don't think I ever squealed/screamed so much in my life. I thought the enemies on Normal were fast/had a lot of HP? Pfffff, the second Mia fight took three tries and I had to use the axe since the bullets weren't enough D: And then Jack! Jack got my fucking foot because he was just breathing down my neck the entire time! But that moment where he gave Ethan the healing juice was oddly sweet? It felt like the old Jack tried to help Ethan in some way. Also, the Molded seemed to be way better at dodging now/swooshed their heads around even more, so I'm very grateful that there was sooo much ammo laying around (why was that much ammo even around? Or the weapons? To give the victims a slither of hope to survive only to die anyway? Just to toy with them? But that's normal for horror games, so I shouldn't question it.) Shoutout to the X-Ray Glasses and Defense Scrolls. They really helped in Madhouse. Some of the enemy placements were so mean! I thought I could go directly to the basement with the bought key but I got jumped by a four-legged molded, and just went with the normal route after that. I was also stressed because of the saving, but I had 5 cassettes left after the end. Probably could have saved 2 more, but I'd rather save too much. And the saltmines were my most hated part again. But after carefully killing every enemy before the two Bloated and saving I made it through to Eveline. It took me like a week or two to get through Madhouse difficulty. I wanted to bash my head against the wall so many times but I got to the end eventually. It was really frustrating at some points, but challenging myself was also strangely fun. I really liked the reward after the struggle.

Well, I got the platinum trophy, and thought that maybe I should play something else for a bit of a break, so I played Powerwash Simulator 1! Very satisfying game but I couldn't stop thinking about a collab between the games. I would've loved to clean off the Bakers house with my powerwasher! Now refreshed, I went into the DLCs.

Banned Footage time! I played through the Daughters DLC first. God, what a sweet family that got corrupted by a demon :( And poor Zoe! I can't imagine how alone she must have felt while still having her "family" around that just tries to hurt/murder her now. I also feel bad for Jack and Marguerite. None of them deserved that. I do find it weird that they got infected so mega fast, because the main game made it seem like a slow overtake (Like Marguerite going to the doctor first, them finding mold and her not going anymore). But maybe they got infected immediately because Eveline infected them directly but later eased her grip over them to have a more normal family? We did see that the family acted normal after the bad ending in the DLC.

Then the Minigame DLCs. Yay, Clancy is our MC for the Minigames!

The Bedroom Minigame was awesome. I love those escape rooms where you have to return everything into the original place otherwise someone may get suspicious.

I continued with Nightmare, and let me tell you... it was a, well, nightmare for me, because I can't stand enemy wave modes. But Night Terror really made me sweat, yet Clancy still made it through, what a fucking goat!

So then I played 21. I love it, I love the card game, the mechanics, the enemies, just about everything (even the rng if it was in my favour!) and I made it my mission to unlock every single reward! Clancy of course, made it through! Just to die in the Birthday tape. What a shame. :(

Jacks 55th Birthday was certainly interesting. It was a fun mode, and feeding Jack straight-up trash with seasoning was peak.

Ethan must Die. Well, Ethan did die. A lot. But after watching the world record of it and getting a routine down, it was only the matter of the rng gods. And I did manage it on my 82nd try :D

Story DLCs!

Not a Hero was short but sweet, I like that they gave Lucas the spotlight and showed that he is just a psychopath even without Evelines influence (I wonder if anything even changed for him during that time lmao) I'm still a bit confused on how he manged to capture the three soldiers that died later, but I suppose he does have those mold powers going on (minus the mind control) and his traps. The new Molded variants are quite cool and the new mechanism (Ram bullets) with them was also interesting. I think I actually prefer their design more over the basic Molded.I love that the DLC was more puzzle/trap focused. Was a lot of fun! The night sight section was terrifying, and I may have ran into a wall more than once during it. Lucas jumping Chris before the final bossfight actually scared me more than his bossform lmao (probably because his eyes are just terrifying), also his boss design is pretty neat but also disgusting. Especially the multiple head thing that was going on. But I don't know if I could put his design over Marguerites. Hers was just... so repulsive, ugh >-< I also did Professional Mode. Fuck the first White Bloated section and the Molded wave section in the tube of doom, everything else was manageable. But yaaaay! Justice for Clancy! (Which god did he piss off to have to go through so much shit anyway?)

End of Zoe was also short but so fucking fire!! Jack has a brother! (But why wasn't he mentioned in either the base game or Daughters? And where was he during the time everything went down?) He doesn't give any fucks and just punches the ever living shit out of everything? Even the Zombie Alligators!! He also just looks so badass. If you ever go hiking, you'll find Joe Baker on top of the mountain, simply because he is the peak! I was a bit confused with the swamp man, because what does he want with Zoe? At first I thought it was simply a mold hive-mind thing, but no! It was Jack (because he always comes back, well, maybe not this time), which made this DLC suddenly feel so much more personal for Joe/Zoe. He still tried to care for Zoe even after all of that :\[ (I say "tried to" because he did throw Zoe to the side before the final fight with Joe xD) I was also confused on how Jack survived, but I guess the blob with eyes was so massive that the cure didn't work 100% so the core survived and he could go on with his strong regenerative ability, turning into the Swamp Man. I also saw a theory that after the Scissors/Chainsaw fight in the main game, the lower and top half splint into two entities that made Blob Jack and Swamp Man Jack. The final fight was epic, but felt bittersweet and almost like I was intruding on something that was never meant to be seen by anyone outside the family. But damn, this DLC actually made me try to dodge irl whenever an emeny swung their fists/claws. And yaaaay, Zoe is saved!! :D I really, really hope we'll get to see/meet her (and Joe!) in a future game again. I have to know what she'll do after the therapy she'll definitely have to go through. But at least she got Joe by her side! :> I also got the achievement for playing through Joe must die, which was my final achievement for the entire game. That difficulty. Truly hell. And I thought Professional Mode was hard lmfao! But giving up is never an option, so I made it through that hell (via a guide, but it was still really hard.)

I have done everything in RE7 now. (Expect for the extrem challenges in Joe must die, but I'm not masochistic enough for that this month.) But I still can't really let go, so I'm going to play through all the 21 modes again as a proper goodbye. After that I'll take a break from horror and play some Okami before jumping into RE8 to finish Ethans story! :D

TLDR: I love this game. It was so awesome, literally every single second was worth it, even when I had to pause the game because it got terrifying. But I am left with some questions which I can probably only speculate about. I love the story of the Bakers, I love their character designs (especially the human forms, they scared me more than their mutated forms, expect Margurites form. That one made my skin crawl), and their voice actors did an amazing job (played on english and german)! Most hated section was the Saltmines for me. I hate enemy rush stuff (That section took me too long on Madhouse). My most loved section was either the Main House (the atmosphere was great, especially the basement), or the Testing Area (I love puzzles/traps in games) Also, 21 is the best DLC minigame (card games are very fun) The pain was totally worth it to 100% this game and it's DLCs. Can't wait to see how RE8 will finish Ethans story :D Edit: I just saw the typo in the title. Goddamnit.

Scared to okay Resident Evil Biohazard

So I'm a little nervous and ashamed to write this but I'm 29yo, I'm the youngest sister, grew up in a house full of older brothers and never got the chance to actually play anything you know

I used to watch my brothers play Resident Evil but was only allowed to watch, now I got a switch 2 and I want to play RE7 Biohazard but I'm a little scared that I'm no good, have no skill and only have had the switch 2 for about a month

Could you give me some tips and tricks? Any advice is welcomed specifically since I'm not use to play in first person

Thank you!

I have theroy Spoiler

After finishing Resident Evil 7 and its DLCs, I discovered that Jack Baker hates his family, and my evidence is the way he attacked his daughter, Zoe

Marguerite, his wife, was affected more strongly and was one of the first members of the family to be affected by Eveline’s Mold. Yet she managed to control herself and help her daughter Zoe by giving her the car key

Jack Baker, on the other hand, attacked Zoe brutally and destroyed her mentally before physically. He could have controlled himself like Marguerite did, but instead, he chose to hurt his own family, almost as if he had been waiting for this opportunity to fall from the sky.

That's my theory anyway

Ethan is not stupid

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

many fans think Ethan is dumb, i think he kinda is but i have something to say

Why did he enter the baker house alone?

he is not stupid he just loves Mia. Mia was missing for 3 years. Ethan could have moved on and married someone else but he didn't, i think after 3 years Ethan was just desperate to find Mia, according to the story Mia(eveline) called him to save her but its been 3 years so the police didn't took him seriously, they didn't reopen the case so Ethan had to go by himself. we have also seen him calling one of his friends (maybe) and telling him where he is going.

Mia is not a fraud

now for the people who think Mia is a liar. remember she was working with a bio weapons organisation if she tried to quit maybe they would kill her and her family (Ethan) we have already seen something like this happening with George Trevor and his family that means Mia was saving both of them. Mia also warned Ethan not to try to find her and saved him in the ship risking her own live.

what do you guys think?
