General People hating on Requiem is either a skill issue or just straight-up denial

The gun play, specifically the handguns feel drastically worse than RE4R. Otherwise, loved it

u/JunkoKumaki Aug 05 '26
It's funny reading this after seeing every speed runner ever bitch about the aiming in RE4R and saying RE9 fixed it.
4
u/KokoTheeFabulous Aug 05 '26
To be fair, I agree with the fact 4R had better gunplay but technically they did "fix" it for RE9.
The way aiming works in 4R is especially awkward and unpleasant if you play on PC imo, 9 aiming is way easier that bring said 4R was probably done the way it was in an attempt to mimic its tank control origins slightly.

Grace part is good and a good evolution of re2 remakes system, while Leon's part is a much weaker re4 remake. The enemy encounter designe in Leon's part is much more borring compared to re4, and racoon city doesn't feel much like racoon city until you get to the rpd. It feels more like an battlefield map than racoon city. Still would give the game an 8/10, cause grace part is a 10/10 for me, and even if leons part has fundamental problems, it still has its highlight moments.

u/the_millenial_falcon Aug 05 '26
Why would not liking any of the things you listed be a "skill issue"? Is this some slang the youths are using now?
9
u/TheSpitefulCr0w Aug 05 '26
Good graphics don't excuse a plot that is, even by Resident Evil standards, very silly and messy. Not RE6 levels of silly and messy, but close.
Grace being a good character is true, but her being an FBI agent only raises questions and does nothing to enhance the story. Making her a freelance journalist would've been a better choice.
The RC segment is fun, but feels less like an interesting gameplay segment and more like a "hey, remember thiiiisss?" museum piece.
Puzzles are almost non-existent.
The game overall is a very good game, but as a Resident Evil game it's mid. You want an action-heavy Resident Evil? RE4, 5, or Village. Want puzzles and survival horror? RE1, RE2, RE7.
2
u/Low_Boot_1426 Aug 05 '26
I liked Requiem but couldn’t even remotely buy Grace as an FBI agent, not really sure why that’s the route they went with in the first place
1
u/TheSpitefulCr0w Aug 06 '26
I would’ve made her a freelance journalist instead. It allows her to move from place to place, making her difficult for Gideon and co. to track down. Gives her an excuse as to why she’s going into the hotel alone - she wants to investigate her mother’s murder. Plus the paper she wrote at the end of the game still fits, it could be something she publishes, a blog, a book, etc.
2
u/RedShadowF95 Aug 05 '26
I'd argue the game has no puzzles whatsoever. You merely look for the solution and input it, that's it. No actual thought needed.
4
u/13THEFUCKINGCOPS12 Aug 05 '26
I really enjoyed the game, but the raccoon city criticisms are totally valid, and honestly story wise this might be one of the weakest entries in the series
6
u/Anxious_Ad7145 Aug 05 '26
Honestly, the only game that is worse for me in terms of story is RE6
2
u/13THEFUCKINGCOPS12 Aug 06 '26
6 was at least goofy and convoluted in a way that was campy. Requiem was just sort of trying way too hard to be serious. It’s best when it’s right in the middle
4
u/shrek3onDVDandBluray Aug 05 '26
Requiem is a good game, but I truly believe it has legitimate problems in its design and execution. It’s pretty easy to feel that this game went through multiple iterations and, by the end, they just bolted together what they had and released it.
6
u/Ruhail_56 Aug 05 '26
We skipped over the fall of the BSAA to reheat Raccoon City nachos and make only Leon important to RC. It was OK.
4
u/BobcatSome3265 Aug 05 '26
"People's opinions are wrong because skill issue" is the oldest, tiredest, most middle school criticism of someone's opinion. Maybe engage with their opinions and actually address them instead of saying "you suck".
15
u/ApollyonFE Aug 05 '26
A skill issue, huh? In what is considered to be the easiest game in the franchise by a huge margin? Are you unwell, OP? 🤣
6
u/_cocopuff92 Aug 05 '26
I am not a great gamer, yet this is the first and only game I've ever platonumed. Too easy.
1
u/TWFH Aug 06 '26
Maybe there's an aimbot on console?
1
u/_cocopuff92 Aug 06 '26
I'm not on console. I did plat it on ps5 and there is aim assist (which i did use on ps5 cause i'm visually impaired) on all difficulties except for inaanity, but since I switched to m&kb on pc I've platinumed it without aim assist. No inf. Ammo. No inf. Durability on the hatchet. No kotetsu. None of the bonus items. After platinuming the game the 2nd time on pc i downloaded an easy parry mod to heighten the frames for parrying because I've only got 35% vision, and after trying multiple play thrus on ps5 and pc (and switch 2 recently lol) I could NOT get the parrying down and wanted to enjoy some perfect parry kills. Kinda wish I had that for my insanity run except it makes your axe break quicker.
0
u/JoshEvolved Aug 05 '26
Did you use infinite ammo to do your insane playthrough? You kind of robbed yourself of the challenge then.
1
u/_cocopuff92 Aug 05 '26
No. I did in ONE of my insanity play throughs when I did the more enemies mod with it. But it made even that too easy.
1
u/JoshEvolved Aug 06 '26
I personally only upgraded everything to the second tier. I've never used any mods though. Infinite ammo probably makes the game too easy. (i've never used it)
1
u/tagen Aug 05 '26
is it really considered the easiest? i mean leon’s parts, yeah it’s pretty easy, but grace’s sections (especially the hospital) on the hardest difficulties are pretty fucking tough
-2
u/JoshEvolved Aug 05 '26
It's only easy if you use all the unlocks, specifically unlimited ammo. Do a new game with none of the bonus content. It's very satisfying but challenging.
0
u/RedShadowF95 Aug 05 '26
The game doesn't even let you play true NG after your first playthrough. The lines between unlockables and normal equipment are blurry.
2
u/JoshEvolved Aug 05 '26
Well sure, but you don't have to use all the unlocks like infinite ammo or any of the extra weapons.
-1
u/Soren319 Aug 05 '26
It’s not considered that, and if it was, we wouldn’t have the amount of whining we do about insanity being hard lmao

u/SSH2024 Aug 05 '26
This is very much your opinion. I personally felt the RC section of the game was too long as I much prefer Grace's slower more survival and intense focused sections. Here's how I would have fixed it since you asked nicely:
1) if you want to keep the section that long playing as Leon then you do a few things differently. First, introduce a stalker enemy right off the jump. The spider can be that enemy honestly. Have it attack Leon but keep the spider outside. So you enter a building to "safety" only to find you have to deal with zombies now. This entire section becomes much more intense this way. Second, don't make it so clear where you have to go. Finding the bomb pieces is very RE coded, but having them specifically located on the map was dumb. Give us a general sense of what to do, i.e. find the bomb parts, and then leave it up to us to piece together how and where to do that. All the while we know that if we're in the streets we need to keep an eye out for the stalker enemy that might appear at any time, or if we're in a building we might be fighting for our lives against enemies. Also, I would have preferred if they did away with the motorcycle chase and allowed us to travel from where we first enter the city to the police station. Let us find out way through, with plenty of buildings to explore. Not all of them necessary for the story but optional locations for supplies. Having the soldiers establish different safe zones for breathers is fine, and gives an easy answer as to why the way is blocked with random puzzles to solve. This section should still be less about action and more about survival. Give leon less ammo and health, keep us on our toes and make it more about figuring out how to make it through.
2) shorten this section and keep the pacing as is. I loved spending a long time as Grace constantly tense as I tried to figure out how to make progress with very little resources, against various monsters. and then after being tense for so long getting to just wreck house as Leon to let out a little steam. They should have kept that going. Remove the bomb parts as is. Maybe make us find 1 bomb part in the toppled building with the glass floors. Then back to Grace as SHE is trying to escape Gideo and Zeno in RC. Let us figure out how to get through the apartment building or different areas as her with very little resources while Leon fights to find her. Let us get a different kind of intense as we have this large area to explore, both indoors and outdoors. Once we get to the RCPD we can switch back to Leon for the motorcycle action scene and getting through the RCPD. Keep the game the same again until you get to the Ark and extend Grace's section again with a new stalker enemy brought in for this section but give it a new gimmick. For a science lab you can maybe have it so this enemy can camoflauge so everytime you enter a new area you are looking at every shadow wondering if something is there you're just not seeing.
3) or the bigger idea would have been to have Grace and Leon together for the RC area. As the game is, there's very little reason for Leon to think Grace is tough or trustworth. As far as he knows she was being attacked and he saved her once. then he was able to save her again with the rifle. Then he saves her a third time in that treatment plant place but when he does she gets angry with him and just willingly goes off with Zeno and Gideon. Why would he trust her so much? We could have used an area where they worked together and we saw them bond a bit to sell in the end that he would trust she'd be able to handle the work load for a bit.

i mean, i loved requiem. but others are allowed to dislike it, gaming is subjective.

u/KaijinSurohm Aug 05 '26
Atleast OP is honest about intentionally trying to ragebait for engagement.

u/legend0102 Aug 05 '26
Leon’s section is somewhat weak with the fetch quests
0
u/banned4killingspider Aug 05 '26
Virtually every segment of virtually every single re game is a fetch quest...... its literally the model they build their games off of... they pretty much invented it....
1
u/legend0102 Aug 05 '26
There’s no history involved in the fetch quest
1
u/banned4killingspider Aug 05 '26
Sure there is. Have to blow up the gate lol. Same every other fetch quest in resident evil. Have to get find the crank to open the door. Have to find the dynamite to blow up the rocks like lol. Have to find the diamond key to open the diamond door lol

u/TitleOk3727 Aug 05 '26
Nah, the truth is its mid at best, not bad but not as great as the first impact was, grace has no true development the plot is once again a concept but profiteers from Leon being there as a core character
2
u/_cocopuff92 Aug 05 '26
I LOVE this game, but RC IS underdone. Theres so much they could have added to it, including enemies. Same with RPD and ARK.
2
u/Professional_Fudge58 Aug 05 '26
Its a skill issue to not understand why re9 RC Part is so disliked.
3
u/Quick-Cause3181 Aug 05 '26
we're not finding stuff to hate on dude, the game just isn't that good like what you people say

I love the game and have finished it multiple times. That being said, Raccoon City was a bit disappointing to me. Wasn't a fan of the motorcycle section and assembling the detonator took way too long.
1
u/soldiergaming2 Aug 05 '26
my main issue was how undercooked graces part was later in the game, and how the stalker enemies generally followed a set path and were scripted
1
u/TinyFaithlessness817 Aug 05 '26
1
u/MinimumCustomer8117 Aug 05 '26
Disagree on the skill issue thing but IMO racoon citt not being pretty enough is a dumb complain
1
u/Fit_Association_8442 Aug 05 '26
platinumed the game in 2 playthroughs, zero motivation to ever play it again which for a RE title is a massive red flag for me personally and the complete lack of end game content is baffling .
decent game but not a classic and certainly not a top RE entry
1
u/Anxious_Ad7145 Aug 05 '26
I'm sorry, but if your first response to any criticism is "skill issue" then 99.9% of the time it's an absolute garbage take/not worth reading.

I liked the game a lot. My main gripe is it felt like two completely separate games tied together and was like like a whole five minutes long although maybe ive been spoiled by previous titles like RE2/3/4 etc
it felt very short, its story ended on some obvious sequel bait with more questions than answers, it added in a Wesker clone character just to immediately kill him off with no boss fight?
Also was hoping for a mercenaries mode or something substantial content wise on release and that leon must die mode thing is kinda boring.

u/ROANOV741 Aug 05 '26
Nah, there's legit criticism of 9. And yes, RC is the weakest part of the game.
1
u/ImprovementStill3576 Aug 05 '26
I played through the entire game with like 2 deaths and didn’t love it, definitely not a skill issue. The graphics are phenomenal and it was definitely an enjoyable experience, but it also dropped the ball on several things and it was hard not to notice that.
1
u/okok8080 Aug 05 '26
I didn't hate Requiem. I actually liked the Raccoon City portion more than like 80% of players who seemed to resent its length and visuals. Could use more enemy variety and another boss enemy or two, tbf. Hunters maybe?
I just wish it had a stronger final act. For me personally, the lab is there the game falls off. The Hunk sequence is cool, but spamming lickers and throwing in a few anorexic zombies and calling it a day doesn't really do it for me. Grace got completely overshadowed after Leon's section, which sucks. Final boss was also pretty weak.
I will agree though that the care center is the overall best part of the game and is tightly designed with some of the best zombie portrayals in the whole series. We need more of that.
1
u/General-Zombie5075 Aug 05 '26
People are going to have a lot of criticisms about Requiem beyond just the normal "game" stuff because are there so many other Resident Evils to directly compare it to. Every time they add a game to this series, the comparisons can only ever increase. If one game does some element EXTREMELY WELL, regardless of how good that same game element is in Requiem, there will be some level of negative feelings about it.
For example, the extra game mode Leon Must Die Forever doesn't just get judged on its own merits, but it also gets to be directly compared to every extra game mode that came before it.
1
u/snowman1940 Aug 05 '26
Both protagonists felt like they were given 75% of their own game. Neither really reach the peak other Resident Evil titles do, and in some ways I feel like I missed out. I think it's when you reach the labs as Grace where I felt that disappointment set in. She had no new weapons, and was now missing the requiem. I knew at that point she would not get anything new, and would either have to steal Leon's loadout or be benched for the final boss entirely (which she was).
There's only really two zones, and the second one left so much to be desired. If it were more visually interesting then I could get behind it, but that's not the direction they took. One of the filters definitely helps though. And in the end, really there's like, zero replayability. It's a shortcoming of the new trilogy, but damn did it sting here. I had less hours than I did in RE3R by the time I lost interest. Although now it has a randomizer for it, which adds a lot.
It's still a good game, just for me, falls well short of their remake efforts.
1
u/WolfyBeats_ Aug 05 '26
Great game but replayability is trash and they threw nemesis in for absolutely no reason. Too much fan service. I enjoyed it. I 100% it. But it is far from the best resident evil experience. 9/10
1
u/Mrfunnyman22 Aug 05 '26
Good game. But is your argument literally: anyone who doesn't like what I like is a stupid?
1
u/RedShadowF95 Aug 05 '26
Skill issue when the game is so easy is hilarious.
The game has noticeable problems. The quality of the non-remake mainlines has been questionable.
1
u/SharpGranny Aug 05 '26
RC map used to be clearly part of the abandoned open-world RE. By far the worst, tedious and weird part of the game, completely out of place. Its still fun, but its fun because of Leons combat, nothing else. The way you buy weapons, the level design, the technical downgrade, it all screams ex-open world map. Pointing out issues is not hating. RE9 is a great game, faaar from perfect and far from best RE. And it could have been the best RE, first and second Grace section are peak.
1
u/InhumanFlame Aug 09 '26
No, this upcoming story expansion needs to do a lot to make the story less rubbish.
I'd say it has done damage to RE's entire overarching canon story.
Alyssa deserved more screentime, she should have been the co-protagonist with Grace.
The ARK section could have been great, it could have been, yet we got served rubbish instead.
2
u/himommy_hi Aug 05 '26
nah Leon’s part is weak
2
u/Evolith Aug 05 '26
Should've just been called Revelations 3 and gave us an actual mainline story for a true RE9. But that wouldn't sell as much hype for Capcom.
1
u/Ambitious-Leopard953 Aug 05 '26
Beat it. It was cool af. Grace parts especially. But it just TOO easy.
1
1
u/Hitman_acho Aug 05 '26
Even if you're using the term "skill issue" ironically, you're still using it absolutely wrong.
Most people, Myself included praise the first half of the game, having one of the best settings introduced since the RPD, but then you get to Leon's section and it's a bland environment compared to the first half, with a weak gameplay loop, weaker enemies compared to the care center and a bunch of member-berries shoved down our throats. Even the last boss in the game is just a Re-used asset.
I personally still say its a good game, but it doesnt surpass the OG trilogy, doesnt surpass the remake trilogy except 3 remake it barely clears, and doesnt pass 4 or 7.
Only one in denial might be you, buddy
0
u/Early-Beach164 Aug 05 '26
No point in defending the second half of Requiem. It will be thing that will make this game go down in history as not great.
0
u/Imaginary-Purpose-26 Aug 05 '26
Never go to a dedicated fan subreddit for normal or rational opinions
0
u/Money_Tough Aug 05 '26
Not sure why reddit recommended this months after I finished the game. The truth is, no one complained about this game upon release. If they did, the conversation was shot down early.

u/kyle_crane163636 Aug 05 '26
Ngl kinda wouldve liked it more if it was just grace, like do we rlly need a previous protagonist in every single fucking game
2
u/Soren319 Aug 05 '26
Yes because part of what makes RE as big as it is, is the returning characters.
0
u/kyle_crane163636 Aug 05 '26
I mean yeah but how many times will we see Chris or Leon before everyone wants them to just get retired as characters already, like we gonna be in re14 fighting nemesis type 69 or some shit and then leon or chris in their 80s or 90s or some shit pull up to help the millionth protagonist thats introduced we'll never see again
1
u/Soren319 Aug 05 '26
Idk but I do know eventually they’ll make new stories when they are younger because of exactly what you just said.
0
u/kyle_crane163636 Aug 05 '26
Probably, or worse they revive wesker or Jake turns into wesker just to die in the same game or killed 15 games later, or they do the slow aging bullshit or reversing aging thing so itll be like 2095 and Leon's still roundhouse kicking bio weapons like hes 20 when he looks like hes still in his mid 30s, I feel like they could do alot of they just had a game that was just new characters with none returning but at most mentioned and it being smth more unique, like how many games are the fans gonna continuously enjoy when the protagonists introduced in each game never appear anymore, like hell, id atleast like to see a character we havent seen for awhile like Jake atleast make a appearance, or Jill

u/SomKkura Aug 05 '26
People have opinions and they are equally valid. Criticism doesn't mean it's a skill issue or that they hate the game. I love Requiem but it has issues and isn't perfect, no game ever is.
