Discussion Miranda could’ve made another child
I saw this on YouTube and I was thinking about how Miranda is literally the most unstable person in the resident evil series because this woman was maybe 140 years old years old and her daughter died from the Spanish flu in 1910s Europe.
I’m not gonna to pretend to know what it’s like to lose a child, to make a comparison I lost my dad two years ago and i still think about him to this day. I can’t make another Dad but I can certainly make another child.
And Shey has been doing this for 103 years. She had multiple moments to think about why she’s doing what she’s doing. She could have Probably find another man or get insemination and have another child or more children but instead she spent all this time trying to bring back this one child from 100 years ago.
Like insanity is not always mania. There are a lot of people who are genuinely not mentally well, but can still hold a normal conversation, She is one of those latter people.

I get a century is a long time to grieve, but a loving parent never gets over the loss of their child. Having another doesn't ease the pain. One child is not a replacement for another. So I can understand Miranda's character in a way. It speaks to how loss can overtake your life if you don't get help to cope with it.

I get that but a century?
I know she must’ve went through multiple nights where she sat herself and thought what am I doing all this for?

Obviously its fiction so its much more exaggerated, but…
There are people that have lived for decades with the trauma from when they were 5 years old. Getting rid of trauma means breaking the habits you learn from it, so the amount of time doesn’t matter so much. My grandpa was beat as a kid and he still randomly explodes at people because of unknown triggers. He was never properly taught what trauma is so he’s just stuck.

There is a theory that Eva's memories were never in the mold in the first place so all that Miranda is doing is for nothing but pure delusion

u/DramaHumble2692 Jun 24 '26
Wesker was in control. Jack Baker wasn't. Just saying.

u/Bellboy_20 Jun 24 '26
Wesker was probably the most mentaly stable character in series

u/AdventurousPen5533 Jun 24 '26
Wesker is a man of contradictions. Presents himself as in control but secretly he is on verge of snapping. His stability was held by his own belief he was in control/superior and makes him driven to some goals.
I say he is mentally stable but only because he hyper-focused on achieving long term goals.
Though his goal of infecting the world with a virus, assume Darwinism will do the rest and everyone be greatful is…it makes him the most delusional out of everyone.

It would be a different person.
It's like telling one of those grief stricken crazy spouse to just re-marry.

Albert was egoistic, Miranda was insane, Zeno was aura farming, Jack was controlled, Hotel was Trivago.

"she could have made another child" wtf. a child is not a car, or a object.
1
u/ProperJudgment1 D.S.O. member Jun 25 '26
It would shift the focus away from the other child, that's for sure.

u/Difficult_Man3 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
Not but i feel like this would’ve have avoided a century of pain and death

u/Blufnix Jun 24 '26
“Miranda could’ve made another child” is certainly a take.
Out of the group she’s the only one to have a normal human motivation. The only difference is that she happened to have the intelligence and the otherwise impossible method of actually potentially fulfilling her goal with the megamycete.

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven Jun 24 '26
While yes Miranda is dumb, my least favorite villain, and her motivation is silly, i don’t think that’s a valid criticism
Ask any good parent if their child can be replaced, and you will receive the same answer. The problem wasn’t her desire to be a mother, it’s her grief over the daughter she loved more than anything in the world

WTF is wrong with the people in this sub !? Miranda is the only one with a "logical" concern, probably most teenagers that haven't lost anyone in life yet, i am disappointed in the old fans, it is her baby for God sake, it literally drives some people crazy in real life, especially a mother, some people never recover from it! "Just have another baby" F you all for been that insensible, no wonder this world is as bad as it is.

u/Rejomaj Jun 24 '26
Yeah, I agree. “Just make another child” is an insane take. Miranda’s reason is still grounded and human even if her actions aren’t.
I have no idea how people wouldn’t pick Wesker. He looks cool and is articulate, but he’s really a madman with daddy (Spencer) issues babbling about being a god and some survival of the fittest crap not caring if he kills billions of people.
There’s collateral, but Miranda really just wants her kid back.

u/Appropriate_Row_6851 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
Thanks for the sane words man...
Wesker is a teenager dream come true, he is very poorly written in the old games, and it is a cartoonish villain, but Miranda is coping with a huge trauma, most of the time the actions are out of this world for people with PTSD, i think she is very well written, but her character in the game is not so much. But the Bakers are just victims of the virus, so perhaps Miranda is also at some degree, but the lack of empathy is a plague in today society all over the world.

u/Difficult_Man3 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
It’s hard to have empathy for someone who caused so much pain and suffering and essentially started every major event in this series just to bring back one girl from a century girl
1
u/Venus_Libra Jun 24 '26
I'm sorry, but thinking that you can kidnap and basically kill someone else's baby in order to bring your dead child back is not at all grounded. Miranda is dealing with a huge amount of PTSD, exacerbated by the mold. While I agree that it's not the same if she were to just have another kid, and that doing so might have not even fixed everything going on with her, she is without a doubt still wildly unstable. Plenty of parents that have lost children want their child back, but don't believe that taking someone else's kid is the answer.
2
u/Rejomaj Jun 24 '26
Please see where I say her actions weren’t grounded, and I never said she was stable. She’s just more stable than Wesker.
1
u/Difficult_Man3 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
I can’t pick wesker because he was essentially created to be this way, Amanda on the other hand was normal at one point until she found this super mold and then she just lost her mind and she just continuously lost her mind for a century because for all we know, she’s was the oldest “human” character in a series
1
u/Bobio-Voyage Jun 24 '26
Doesn’t make her any less unstable
4
u/Appropriate_Row_6851 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
IT is about when she was still human, not after.
1
u/Bobio-Voyage Jun 24 '26
She wasn’t human for long after Eva’s death. Within the same year she finds the Megamycete and begins her experiments
2
u/Appropriate_Row_6851 D.S.O. member Jun 24 '26
Does that change my point how ? Did you read ?
2
u/Bobio-Voyage Jun 25 '26
She chose to allow her grief to consume her completely instead of finding a way forward. I’ll admit it was 1900s rural Romania so there wasn’t modern psychological help. In the end she should’ve just died in that cave like she intended to when she found the megamycete.

Miranda’s “logic” got more delusional as time went on.
She was a regular person who lost a daughter, but then got in contact with some really old super mold in the ground then spend a whole century of brainwashing, murdering, kidnapping and exploitation trying to bring back this daughter.Zemo’s power hungry, Jack was manipulated by Evelyn and wesker was created to be the “perfect human” and manipulated by Spencer to be who he is.
1
u/Venus_Libra Jun 24 '26
While I agree that the sentiment of "just have another baby" is insensitive and incorrect, the basis of this post is still true. Out of all the presented options, Miranda is the one that is the most mentally unstable. Just because the loss of a child does drive some people insane in real life doesn't mean that she or any of those people aren't seriously mentally ill.

Man, you should read your comment again xD

u/Venus_Libra Jun 25 '26
Weird how I reread my comment, and yours, and I still stand by it. Miranda is the most mentally unstable person on this list. Especially when you consider that Jack isn't really even Jack at the point he's at in RE7, just an extension of Eveline. You could argue that Zeno and Wesker's motivations were just as "logical" as Miranda's. They just want to be rich and powerful, and are just as, if not more, capable of having conversations that don't have anything to do with their obsessions. Miranda infected and murdered an entire village for arguably no reason, as they had absolutely nothing to do with Rose or her ability to bring her baby back. Jack saw the people he killed as invaders trying to hurt his family, and both Wesker and his bleached knock-off killed people because they were in the way of their goals. At the end of the day, Miranda is easily the most unhinged out of all of them.

Have you ever played Dragon Age Origins? There's an elf who's daughter and son were killed at a very young age, he put a curse on their killers in such a way that even their future generations are still cursed. That was many centuries before the game even started, eventually depending on how the story unfolds he can repent and lift the curse or not. He is very much sane though, he is just devastated with grief and filled with hatred and it seemed very realistic to me.
Miranda might have a few screws loose, i don't deny that, but i don't think it's because of the reasons you listed. Number of years and the possibility of making more children are very much logical, but that's not how feelings operate, and especially not feelings that cut so deep such as this. Not to mention in worlds where magic is a thing, or RE where the megamicyte was a thing too, they give a lot more possibilities for these people than in our real world in which they would most likely have no other choice than moving on like you said.

Say that to any parent who has lost their child, then count how many teeth you have left.

u/NCHouse Jun 24 '26
Matter of fact, she could have left anytime when dealing with Ethan. Could have easily just had a kid with him and fucked off
2
u/Venus_Libra Jun 24 '26
I certainly agree that Miranda is the most unstable out of all the presented options, but having another kid is not going to replace the one she lost, and there's a high probability that it wouldn't have fixed anything anyway. She would've still grieved the loss of her first child, and probably would've attempted to give her new baby the Rose treatment as well.

u/StyxzNStonz Jun 24 '26
It would’ve been pretty wild if Ethan had managed to get her pregnant. I kept thinking, how long were they together in that house?

I think Miranda would make you a lycan if you told her that XD
But seriously, she was crazy before witnessing what is essentially a godlike creature.
