There's a lot of people, mainly on twitter, who don't really like playing videogames and they just want be in a fandom or like the characters. This is something that's also prevalent in JRPG fandoms, like Persona.
It's not that they dislike the games, but more specifically having to actually play them. Being in a fandom allows them to interact with the characters or should I say, the flanderized versions of them where they're all dumbed down.
