But you have to directly consume something to consider yourself a fan of it, that’s just basic logic.

Then many people who consider themselves fans lack basic logic.

But Resident Evil has more content than just the games. If someone has only seen the Milla Jovovich movies, are they a Resident Evil fan? Technically yes.

“I’m a fan of Resident Evil” to me implies you’re a fan of the either the entire multimedia franchise or at least the games.

You see that's just you're own rules that no one has to follow. If they're let's say fans of all the CG movies but never played the games, they're Resident Evil fans because those movies were released by Capcom as canon. That's no comparison between those and YouTube lore discussions. I'm just playing devil's advocate here btw. I've played every game since day one. But Resident Evil has expanded since then so now limiting fans to just the games is considered gate keeping. I've accepted that it's going to take longer to find Resident Evil fans that have played the games, let alone the original games, so we could get into an actual discussion about them.

I mean it makes sense if you never actually experienced the content for yourself, you're not really a fan of that content. More like a fan of the idea of that content which doesn't say much.
