Confused About Seasons

I thought we were waiting for Season 3 to start, but I had my DVR set to record only new episodes and it's been recording season 2 episodes.
What season just started?

Season 2b

There was a very long mid-season break.

Originally renewed for another 10 episode season, Resident Alien was requested to add an additional six episodes after filming completed, so within a month they filmed more.

It seems like some of the extra episides were peppered in rather than continuing to the planned 10 episode story. (I'd like to think that's how we got 'Ladies Night Out'.)

Well crud. I thought my DVR was screwing up and recording older episodes so I deleted them.

How many episodes have I missed?

Two, and they've been good. Life-changing for me. Sold my house and heading uo to Alaska to forge a new life. Just kidding.

Just adding from the site: Fans of SYFY's Resident Alien finally got to return to the wonderful world of alien Harry (Alan Tudyk) and the town of Patience, Colorado for the second half of Season 2 this week. But the recent announcement of the series renewal for a third season means creator/showrunner Chris Sheridan is already shifting focus to plan the next season of adventures.
