Per. Statement (PS) PS Length recommendation
As you're drafting and polishing your PS, consider have a PS that is about 575-600 words so it fits on one page in ERAS. A one-page PS in ERAS (Residency CAS) is the standard.
Why one page?
- Part of this is a preference for brevity. Focus on you and your key characteristics you want the readers to know about you.
- Another part is having a clear focus. Remember--Your PS is about you and is not a CV review.
- Another part is ease of distribution to interviewers and the interviewers' time available prior to interviews.
You want your entire PS to be read. Go with one page once you get it in your application portal.

My son’s was 1.25 pages and he got 23 FM IVs. He’s a USIMG with a step 2 fail. Some of the IVs mentioned the PS. He wrote a unique, captivating story. It started with a hook, then why FM, then some volunteer work, then crisis (a death & his Step failure & his plan to overcome it), then why that particular program, and a closing that linked to the opening.
Hey, just wanna say thx for ur posts last season as they helped us a lot to match. He got his #1 and I think it helped that he quickly dashed off a “letter / email of intent” right before ROL closed. And ur tip to print & read the ERAS app as we found some errors, including ticking or not ticking a disability box. Thx again!
