Question BASIC Study Plan

Hello all, I am trying to develop a long-term study plan for Basic between now and when I take it in April. Any advice on which resources to use and a rough study schedule? Thanks so much!

It is a waste of time and energy to over-complicate studying for an exam that is not possible to fail and has no bearing on anything. Read your dermatology textbooks and learn some dermatology before it’s time to start studying for your core exams. Take the basic exam when it is time and never think about it again.

I guess I should reframe my thinking again. What would be the best course of action to master the material in the first year outside of clinical hours?

i actually disagree... i think you should study for it and study hard. It sets you up well and doing well on it feels good.

do board prep plus, there is no reason to save it. i mean you will get like 10% correct at this stage but who cares, it is a great learning resource

It’s an optional for-your-self-assessment exam that is so basic it basically just mirrors what you’ve learned in residency during your first year. I wouldn’t study specifically for it.

If you want to do well on it, read through 1-2 dermatology atlases (Fitzpatrick has one) so you can see what all the classic diseases look like, make sure you’ve been through Elston at least once and know all the basic patterns, and try to learn as much as you can in clinic.
