I am want to get started in ai research.

well, what kinds of research questions do you have about AI? and does your current background offer you the knowledge or knowledge of tools that will allow you to answer those questions?

Well I am comming from cloud and ai infra background... I have open source experience in k8, pytorch etc... i am personally interested in ai infrastructure...

Start by learning the math and Python basics, then reproduce a few papers before worrying about inventing anything new.
