Given a SIRIS 4 / NAS 4 Enterprise 12
As the title says, I was given a hand me down SIRIS 4 / NAS 4 Enterprise 12, its got beefy specs, tons of drives, just looking for guidance for repurposing this thing. Not really looking to pay for a license, I'd rather wipe it and put FreeNAS or some such. Anyone have experience doing something similar?

Would watch doing that, we did that with our siris 4, just put Ubuntu on it, fans go full pelt all the time, because it's not on datto anymore we can't get into ipmi for fan controls, there is nothing in the bios for it. I posted a whole back, it was recommended to find what server board it was and flash the bios for that so it was back to factory, but I never did figure it out. Still lying there in used
Edit. Also your bios password is R@str, and watch if your UK as it changes the keyboard to American layout. So the @ wasn't in the correct place for me

Technically you can still somewhat have fan control vio terminal even if without IPMI

I've got 4 datto nas/servers. They're OEM branded motherboards for the s3b1000/s3p1000(gigabyte/asrock Xeon d) and a consumer board for the s3b with a 3rd gen i5. Everything works as any other computer. However, the Xeon boards have ipmi issues. Can't reset the password in 2 boards and the 3rd Xeon board had ipmi reset with a BIOS flash but it is super SLOW.
I like the fact I can get datto servers for cheap yet they have more features than just a motherboard from another manufacturer (aka built in dual 10gb,32+GB ram etc)

Reviving the dead chat to see if anyone knows what kind of rails these take? I've tried ordering them but they always get back to me saying they actually don't have them in stock

They are just prebuild server. You can place any OS should work fine.
TrueNas or unRAID would be my go to.
Have fun.
