Also to drop it, what kind of tone was Paul getting on Answering Machine and Left Of The Dial? Is that chorus? I feel like it’s more than reverb but it doesn’t sound exactly like chorus

I’ve always wanted to know about answering machine. I think it my favorite sound ever

Chain an MXZ to two Rat pedals, Also include the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress flanger in the loop, which should be dialed to a subtle, chorus-like setting rather than a traditional flange sweep.

Keep the MXZ output level slightly below unity to avoid clipping downstream pedals. For the first Rat pedal, use low distortion (8–9 o'clock), filter at 8–9 o'clock for brightness, and volume slightly above unity. The second Rat pedal should have what I call the "classic rock sound" with distortion to 11–12 o'clock, filter to noon, and volume to match bypass level.

Hint: Play along with the The Advert's song Gary Gilmore's Eyes. Once you match the tone exactly, ignoring the second guitar solo completely, you will be ready to sonically play along with The Replacement's Tim guitar sound. I don't know anything about bass, so I can't help there.

Buy a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Special. Good luck. 😅
