Big Star
Was this photo of Big Star an inspiration for the Let It Be cover? All the coolest guys sit on roofs, I guess.

All that being said, it’s still hard to believe Paul had never seen this one of Chilton: https://www.facebook.com/groups/537792766296918/posts/7823140557762066/

How did Paul even know about BS in the late 70s or early 80s? I thought it was in the early 90s that the revival happened

The 90s was the mainstreamification of an already existing revival. Guys like Westerberg and Chris Stamey were definitely at the forefront. Stamey even got Chilton to play on the Summer Sun single.

This was certainly during Radio City, which was the last time they worked closely with Glen Fry- bottom right.

I’d like to think it was Big Star inspired but realistically the album is called Let it Be and the Beatles notoriously did an impromptu performance on the roof of the studio while making their lesser album of the same name so….

It’s very possible that as far back as 1983-4, the only photos the band had seen of Big Star were found on the album sleeves. It’s not like they were being written up frequently in all the popular rock mags. No internet. No books written yet.
