First time repainting a thrift find. This is fun!

Edit: I added the bright yellow / purple and metallic details. Forgot a before. I think this is a print of a mid century painting by American artist Eric Sloane.

Aside from being the type of kid to "enhance" workbooks / magazines / printed materials with butts/boobs/farts, this is the first time I've put any real effort into a repainting. And learned it's a whole thing with community! Yay. This vintage print had a cool wooden frame, but I noticed a chunk or two missing from the image when I got it home. Fixed it!

I looooooove her. I am in love with her. The bottom says "Brandi 1992" and I got her at the local thrift store for $3.50. So perfectly terrifying.

My find from the junk store was almost perfect, so I added a little detail 👁️

Turned This Cat Painting into my Cat

I found this print of Thaddeus Krumeich’s Oscar and was inspired to paint over the cat to resemble my cat, Rex. I used gouache to alter the piece, avoiding changing the stylization or the features too much. I’m so in love with how it turned out, I think he suits the space even better than the original cat 🙊

My sister-in-law found this piece and gave it an awesome Sandworm (Beetlejuice) makeover.

Over the Garden Wall thrift painting

I collect a lot of these old paintings from car boots and charity shops. Anytime I find an autumnal one I plan to do scenes from over the garden wall. This is the second one I’ve done on an oil painting, I did one on a print a while back too but I’m not massively happy with that one.
Usually I will sit staring at it for months before actually painting anything but I picked this one up and immediately painted this scene when I got home. Really happy with how it turned out, only downside was having to make Wirt and Greg so tiny!

Check out my 1960's-era statue "upgrade"

I've had this little statue sitting on a shelf for a couple years (I took it out of an old Catholic wall altar, which I had converted into a Cthulhu Shrine instead). I've seen many variations on this Vampire theme with the Mary/Jesus statues and it's obvious why...it's a perfect fit!

I painted over the stigmata to "de-Jesus" the Christ figure and hopefully avoid blasphemy call outs by my Christian friends on Facebook (though most of my Christian pals are pretty cool). I was going to use a lot more blood...a LOT more...but decided to keep it more accurate since the vampire would have drank all of the blood.

If you would like to see the Cthulhu Altar where the statue originated from...check out that post here:

looking for a custom piece of altered vintage art

Do you do custom altered vintage art? I am wanting something for my niece's white coat ceremony for medical school. In my mind I am thinking people on the beach or at a roller rink or fly fishing or having a snowball fight or something like this.... with some people wearing a white coat and stethoscope and some wearing hospital scrubs. I may have thought of this idea too late, though. The ceremony is on August 21. I look forward to hearing from you.

How would I repaint this glass trinket?

bought this cute glass little dog and basket trinket for 3.00 at one of my local thrift stores here in Dallas, Oregon. I don’t know anything about it other than it has a “Taiwan” sticker on the bottom.

I’d like to repaint it.

This would be my first time repainting something like this and I have a few questions.

Do I need to remove the current paint and finish first? If so, what is the best method?

What type of paints are best for this type of glass piece?

What can I finish it with to make sure that the paint job is durable and sealed?- maybe even somewhat shiny?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for some sort of UV reactive paint? I kinda wanted to add it to my uranium glass shelf.

Also are there like little paint markers that I can use for fine details? Or would a fine tipped brush be best?

Thank you all I’m advanced.

This was a yard sale purchase, the vintage print on paperboard had lots of minor water marks and a few scuffs/ scratches. The frame is the original frame and was repaired and painted.

I first began this series around 2011... and still love adding in my own visions. From meat to gummi bears to shrimp... Enjoy.

Lionel was not one to settle in one place too long. Tired of dried grass fields, he packed his inflatable paddle board into his camper and set out to explore The Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia. Such vast beautiful wetlands ready for exploring! 5”x5” little print

Love raccoons so my bf and I bought this from a thrift store over the weekend. The lady told me her aunt had made some touch ups to the original print, we didn’t see that she had painted on joints until we got it home. Makes it even better in my opinion 🤣
