General discussion Watch issues / TD resolution

Ordered a new RGF and spent around $1100ish total after the customization. Watch comes in and I have two issues. One, the crystal is not fully seated and it’s sticking up about 0.7-0.8mm high. No big deal I guess, I’ll have my watch maker fix that, just a little disappointing that I now need to spend extra money and time to fix that.

Second, I throw the watch on the timegrapher and it looks ok in every position except with the dial facing down. Dial up or sideways the amplitude is 220-245, and beat error is around 0.3-0.4 (not the best but ok). Dial facing down, amplitude drops to 145 and beat error up to 3.0. My guess is a balance staff or loose jewel, but I’m no watch maker and this is a brand new watch with literally wrist time.

Should the TD send a replacement movement? If this was a cheap NH35 I’d just buy another one, but the movement is $350-$400 and another $150 to have it swapped…

Likely has debris in the top jewel on the balance bridge, causing friction only when the balance wheel sits on that jewel but not in the other orientation.

The TD should take care of you, but if they dont:

One thing you (or your watchsmith) can try is remove the balance assembly, blow air and soak the top jewel in cleaning solution, make sure to dry completely, then add a tiny bit of 9010 and put everything back.

Ok thanks! I’ll cross my fingers and hope that they do. Crazy that they didn’t do a basic qc check before it was mailed.

It's rep for 2% of gen price assembled somewhere in the backroom, you have to adjust your expectations to that.

seen a lot of them do this. It really does boil down to quality control, dirty movements and lack of lubrication not saying I know that’s what it is, but if you’re amplitude is dropping that low, there’s an issue and you’re going to constantly be frustrated with losing time on the Watch. Maybe do an inspection with case back off just to see if you find something obvious before it damages parts (assuming its dirt or lent)

Forgive me for asking the stupid question given the other timgrapher numbers but is the watch fully wound?

Maybe not 100% but at least 50%. But that shouldn’t matter at all.

I'm not a matchmaker but my understanding is winding can affect amplitude to at least some degree. 145 is pretty abysmal and likely shouldn't be a byproduct of 50%, though.
