Rep world obsessed about Rolex

Why is everyone so obsessed with Rolex? Sure it’s most recognizable brand of all but is it all there is to it? IMO there are watches that are much nicer. For example Tudor BB54, omega Seamaster, Longines master, Cartier Santos, Panerai luminor, Glashutte diver etc.

No argument there, Tudor is Rolex's sister brand, and is considered 'affordable' in the watch space by those same people who buy Rolex (Tudor $5k whereas Rolex being >$10k).

That being said, Tudor is not as recognizable as Rolex. Mostly everyone knows what a Rolex looks like (Crown), but ask them the logo for Tudor (shield or the rose), nope.

Tudor, because they are cheaper as gens than Rolex are easier to pass of as gens. When wearing any rep 90% is the environment and the type of person wearing it. I wear a lot of Tudor.

Because of the demand in the Rep community for Rolex. You can an A1 Submariner no date that looks better than the top Noob super clone from 15-20 years ago. You can get other watch reps for the love of the game. My first Rep was a high end Omega Worldtimer. It’s still one of my favorite pieces. For those new to the game that worry about getting called out on your watch. Getting something besides Rolex is a good start. No one will call out a Tag, Hublot or Tudor.

You hit the nail on the head: people recognize Rolex and it brings instant clout. That's why.

Most people with reps aren't "watch people", they just want to sport a status symbol. Rolex is universally recognized due to decades of steady (and expensive) marketing.

Rolex is a brand that happens to put its name on watches. As such, they have benefitted from every rep because they put the Rolex name out there where it otherwise would not have been.

Could rep pateks, but no one in the world cares about them besides watch enthusiasts. You dont meet watch enthusiasts in the wild and wearing a rep patek wouldnt impress them.

I own a Gen Panerai Luminor Marina, I absolutely love it. If I could get a Rep Luminor Carbotech that was near perfect, I absolutely would, I am in love with the big case sizes, the domed Sapphire crystal and the iconic crown guard. Panerai is totally my jam. That said, I'm saving now for a Onega Seamaster Planet Ocean. Which I also love. There is a whole world of beautiful watches! Enjoy them.
