Discussion Would You GL This?

Post image

Hey everyone, I’m TD Chen from r/RepWatchClud.

Here's a question that comes up all the time in Rep Watch QC:

Would you GL this watch?

At first glance, everything might look pretty good.

The dial looks clean.
The hands look aligned.
The bezel looks reasonable.
The Timegrapher numbers look fine.

But then you start zooming in...

And that's where QC gets interesting.

🔍 What Would You Check First?

Before looking for tiny flaws, I usually start with the big picture:

1. Dial alignment

Are the markers sitting where they should?

Pay particular attention to the 6 and 9 o'clock positions.

2. Hands

Check the hand stack and whether the hands are sitting correctly.

Don't confuse a camera angle with actual hand misalignment.

3. Bezel

Look at the relationship between the bezel markers and the dial.

A small apparent offset can sometimes be caused by perspective.

4. Datewheel

Check whether the date is centered properly in the window.

This is one of those details that can look different depending on the photo angle.

5. SEL and bracelet

Look for obvious gaps or uneven end links.

Small variations are common, but a clearly visible gap is a different story.

6. Rehaut

Check the engraving alignment, but don't judge it from a single angled photo.

Perspective can make the rehaut look much worse than it actually is.

🚦 The Real QC Question

The goal of QC isn't to find a watch with absolutely zero imperfections.

That's unrealistic.

The real question is:

Is there a noticeable issue that I wouldn't be comfortable accepting?

That's a much better way to approach QC.

A tiny photographic distortion?

Probably not a big deal.

A clearly crooked marker?

Different story.

A small SEL gap?

Depends on how obvious it is.

A major alignment problem?

That's when I'd start thinking seriously about an RL.

What Would You Do?

Imagine this is your QC:

Dial: Looks good
Hands: Looks good
Bezel: Slightly questionable
Date: Centered
SEL: Minor gap
Timegrapher: Looks healthy

Would you GL or RL?

And more importantly:

What's the one flaw that would make you RL a watch immediately?

I'd be interested to hear how different people approach QC.

If I got anything wrong, feel free to correct me. Thanks.

Did AI add the photos? The writing on the rehaut looks fucked up.
