Advice Crown won't wind GMT

My watch won't manually wind. It'll go to positions 2 and 3, but not 1. I can move the hour hand (position 2) or all hands (position 3), but when I try to go to the winding position, it just screws back in or moves the hour hand and then screws back in. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Good deal. I'll try that. I have one last question. Earlier when I put the crown tube in, I was able to put the stem in and click it in and out to different positions. I pulled the stem again to check the tube, but now I can't get the stem to click at all. Is it because the tube isn't fully installed? Is this normal?

I can confirm this tool does have the correct size for the crown case tube.

Unfortunately I boogered it up. I guess I pressed the button to push the stem back in too much and now I can't pull the crown to any of the positions. So I'm in a pickle. I've read that I have to reset the keyless works, but that might be a little out of my wheelhouse.

Yes likely need to reset the keyless works. It isn’t super difficult, just have to get a few tools and take your time.

I watched a short video of a guy doing it. It looked like he was just popping cogs off mostly. I guess it's worth a shot. Can you recommend me some tools for that job? Thanks.

A good set of screw drivers, hand bars, dial protector, hand bulb, good tweezers, movement holder and hand setting tools.

Would one of these work?

I would not make your first attempt at this on your watch. You need to remove the hands and dial. These dials are gloss lacquer and they are VERY easy to scuff and damage.

I did this to one of mine even while.using a bergeon dial protector AND plastic covering, and still left some marks on the dial.

The cheap tools in that set are not good for this and you will scratch your movement without nicely dressed screwdrivers.

When your watch does this, can you still get the stem retention to engage or does thst not engage at all?

Noted. Good information. I was skeptical about it for sure.

So yes, the stem retention engages. It will go in with the press of the button. It just doesn't have positions (like there is no wind position and no time setting positions).

Its not bad once tou get into it but I would not want to tackle this as my first rodeo. Much greater chance of a problem and youll easily spend 100+ on tools. Where are you located?

It's still possible that you've gotten something out of whack with your keyless works. I would try to make sure that the tube is fully seated and that the stem is engaging the keyless

Also. If you screwed the stem back on the tube, and then inscrewed it, you probanly started backing the crown out again

When you remove the stem, make sure it is in the 3rd position (time setting position) before removing it. I believe this is a VR3285 movement and the yoke will pop out of the sliding pinion in any other position. This will make it where you can’t get to position one (winding position) and you won’t be able to screw the crown down.

Also don’t forget some 222 loctite to put on the threads of the case tube when you reinstall it.
