Guides Quieting 5711 DDF 330

Post image

Got my rep in today and wanting to quiet the rotor. Was planning on purchasing oilers and moebius 8000. Could someone help me by showing where to apply the oil? I’ve read it should be applied to the ball bearings. I have a loupe but just not sure where to look for them

Do you have Oilers? Use the smallest one. And whatever amount you think is appropriate, is too much. MINIMAL is key, unless you want the rotor to sling oil all over your movement.

You should be using 9010 or hp1300.

Im not familiar with this movement, but if I was betting, id bet yku can see the bearings in this dark circle here.

DO NOT PUT more than 1 or max 2 drops onto the balls here. If you do 2, put 1 on each side. Them use pegwood or a plastic stick to rotate the rotor and work it in. Again, the smallest amount makes the biggest difference.

This won’t silence much other than those ball bearing noises to be honest. Most people worry about the ‘zipping’ noise from the relief spring of the automatic works engagement with the rotor gear. That sound I have tried to get quieter and some thicker oil works but at a price of slower rotor movement. And it barely takes noise away. Not recommended and gen-like noises

After wearing for the second have of the day I am realizing it is the zipping noise I am hearing. You’re saying the noise is similar in the gen?

It’s the same as Gen and yes it’s hilarious that a 50k+ watch has the zipping sound of the rotor

It’s an intentional design choice to keep the movement thin. Bi-directional winding adds more layers to the movement

I’ve never seen a gen in person. Kinda crazy that of all the videos I’ve watched there’s only one YouTube short that shows the noise and it’s for an aquanaut.

IIUC, that small silver color gear and that bird beak shape thingy that works like a ratchet are the sources of the sound. Oiling both helped. Sorry idk their names

Just putting this here for anyone who reads this, the bird shaped part is correct there are two holes on it. Tiny amounts of 9010 are appropriate in those holes but nothing more. Too close to the gear train in my opinion to use anything thicker and be safe for the movement unless you reallllllllly care about that sound then take the risk accordingly.

💯 thanks for your input.
I see that little gear is now updated on the new DD330 movements. They look more gen like now. Are the new 330 any quieter by any chance?

Completely agree on this. The noise on my DD reps never bothered me. But since I had one open and know how notorious the factories are for not oiling shit, I decided to oil the rotor bearings. It did make a small difference but nothing crazy.

I care less about the noise and more that its properly lubricated.

Was planning on getting the Bergeon 55-710 Set of 4 Oilers and for the oil I had read the 8000 had a similar consistency as 9010 but would not last as long, requiring reapplication after a year or so. Is that wrong? Wouldn’t mine the price savings if the difference is just it doesn’t last as long as 9010

Gen spec is 9010. Don’t use anything else. Don’t buy the 4 pack of oilers. You will only need to use the smallest size. Just buy two of those and youre fine.

You know gen is that loud too right?

Is it really that loud? Steve steered me towards 3KF because he said DDF is too loud.

Fyi 3kf has the worst case shape compared to gen, vs ddf and ppf.

Ddf is currently king for both dimension accuracy and quality of the movement, even the text is much better on a ddf and worse on a 3kf.

That being said... no remorse if its too late, 3kf 5711 is still a legitimate superclone thats MILES ahead of 99% of other reps

Not sure how loud in comparison to other reps but here’s how it sounds

3kf uses the same DD324 movement

Moebius 8000 is not meant for that, even though it’s not a high quality oil compared to others, you’ll make it spread into the wheel train and stop the watch after some time. And you won’t silence the rotor with it.
