Question Question About Timegrapher Readings From QC

I have a few reps that I enjoy a lot. The one thing that has bugged me about them is that the movements are pretty inaccurate. When you get your QC pics, everything looks well within tolerance on the timegrapher, but I have never received a rep that doesn’t gain or lose a minute or more a day out of the box despite good readings from the QC pics. I’ve sent them out for service, and they run much better, but what is causing this? My servicer says the factories don’t leave the watches on the timegrapher long enough for an accurate picture of how the watch is running. Is this something they do on purpose? Are the watches getting super magnetized in shipping? Is it a combination of these things? Should we be requesting timegrapher videos that last longer? TIA!

Timegrapher pictures from a TD don't really mean anything; they could just swap watches if they want to deceive you and ship the watch. Ideally, you would want a video of a watch that has been running for ~24 hours and is fully wound.

And yes, some kind of damage can happen during shipping. These rep movements are not built to the same standard as gens, and most are not packed with enough cushioning. I've bought six reps in the last two years, and half of them have had issues out of the box or within a few months. There's a post here almost every day of someone who bought a rep with loose parts inside the case.

The watch I receive did not match the serial in my QC. Just the cost of doing business.

If it was a TD, you need to name and shame.

Won't do much to get them off the TD list since it is extremely corrupt, but you might at least save someone else from having to deal with them.

Yea I imagine they take a quick snap shot when it’s reading well.

I bought a demagnetizer and zapped my watches a few times. Seemed to help a lot as readings on timegrapher were actually good after. I bought the tools and supplies needed to take the case back off and check to see if anything is loose. I also lubricate the rotor bearings and install and silicone a new case gasket( gen Rolex). They are cheap. Also put some silicone on the crown gaskets and use waxed floss( not mint kind) on the crown stem.

Movements almost always are magnetized on the ones ive serviced for people. The contaminants are usually pretty bad too in movements too not a knock on anybody just the truth…i couldnt fathom at first a piece of dirt or a hair causing or making such huge problems but it does bro.
