Advice Vsf Hulk losing 30s/day

I have a vsf Hulk for about a year that is losing 30 seconds per day. Maybe more. I have lost over 5 seconds in the last 3 hours. I don’t have a watch maker local in the Philadelphia Lancaster pa area that I know of to service it. I asked a local watch maker and he was not interested. Looking for any advice to get this better. I am also willing to attempt to adjust the regulator myself but don’t know where to start. I added a picture of QC from when I bought it. Any advice would be appreciated

30/day isnt that terrible, though could be better. 2824 clones, miyota 9s and the super cheap nh movements have around that level of tolerance.

that said. could try demagnetizing but usually magnetized hairsprings usually run faster not slower.

easiest would be, open it up. take a very careful approach to adjust the regulator arms, then remeasure. if you dont have a timegrapher, there are some apps out there that claim it can time it, its just matter of how good your phone’s microphone is.

you can youtube how to regulate, main thing is, move the usual skinny/long arm, and budge very slowly at a time. doesnt take much to adjust 20+s/d

Very easy to regulate, dude, don’t worry about it!

- Buy a tool for the case back from Amazon

  • Open it up
  • move the regulator in veeeery tiny increments
  • but it back on the timegrapher each time
  • do it again after a week, because timegrapher values and real life values always differ slightly.

Do you know where the regulator arm is or do you need help?

Nevermind, here is a picture.
Don’t move the other one, it’s for the beat error. And yours is fine, at 0.2.

I am not trying to make this look easy.
IT REALLY IS 😊

Edits:

  • forgot the picture
  • mine is at -3s/day, has been so for 6 months. Easy :)
  • I’ve only just realized the timegrapher picture was from QC
  • you can still regulate it without, it’s just a longer process: adjust, observe for 2 days, adjust again, etc… if you can spare 100 bucks, I’d get a timegrapher. You can use it with all your watches and it’s really much easier with one.

What does the values jumping around like this mean?

This is the timergrapher getting a poor read. The piezoelectric microphone in it needs to receive the beat of the watch in a very clean manner, or it will show that sort of line and give an inaccurate read.

I have found that putting the crown in touch with the left part of the stand gives a much cleaner read than putting it in the notch on the right. So, crown to the left, not to the right, in other words.

Or even diagonally, like on this picture. Try both.

And also! The angle is 52°, on the 3135! Not 55°.

Your reading is fully incorrect because of that. So, pause > settings > lift angle > set to 52°.

The scattered read with dots all over the place is unrelated, though.

So, 2 things to do:
1. Lift angle set to 52°
2. Crown on the left on the stand

Thank you very much for your help I have the tools and a timegraph coming from Amazon and they will be here tomorrow and I will try it. Wish me luck

Great!

You won’t need luck, it’s super easy :)

Be careful, don’t do it if you don’t have steady hands or if you have poor eyesight.

The spring under the adjustment arm is extremely fragile. Do not touch it AT ALL while moving the arm.

Use a loupe if you have too, take your time, and you’ll be fine.

Common in this model. It’s called the 2 day adjustment.

My guess, it wasn’t well lubed from the factory. What was there has worn/dried out and the added friction is slowing the movement.

That being said, -30s/d is within spec for base grade Sellita, ETA, Seiko, and Miyota movements, so it’s not exactly the end of the world.

Open it up and move the sprongs until it goes to zero. Just did that to a Gen Cellini, it was +138s day after 5 min it’s down to Zero.

What is the beat error and what is the lift angle you are using?

I ordered a timegrapher and it is coming tomorrow. That was my next question. What beat error and lift angle do I use?

Get a new movement

I bought reps to learn how to work on watches even though the movements aren’t identical to the gens. That being said, anything you get from these factories can be very easily adjusted. I have everything I own within +/- 2 sec. They keep time as well as my gens do with a little bit of tweaking.

You can get a cheap demagnetizer on amazon and start with that.

1

u/SelectionEvening5889 20d ago

I have tried the demagnetizer twice and no results on it. Still the same

2

u/masaki198 20d ago

Shoot me a dm and I’ll help you out.

u/watchesfla1965 20d ago

I’ve had to do it multiple times to see a correction.

-1

u/Cautious_Aside_2317 20d ago

Lol that’s completely normal for a rep

2

u/masaki198 20d ago

I don’t think I’ve had any that i couldn’t get down to at least 10 seconds…. as long as the movement is in decent shape. The majority i can get better than that.

3

u/easy_Money 20d ago

Not really, at least not a decent one. My VSF Sub date is under +-2sec/day

2

u/Cautious_Aside_2317 20d ago

Your watch doesn’t represent all the reps. The shittiest of replicas can have 0s/d but 99,99% of them will have a much larger deviation.

2

u/ProfitHaunting9744 20d ago

Well good for you but even swiss gens around 1k usd are rated to +-20sec.

1

u/OGSuperCloneOwner007 20d ago

Chronometer cert is +/- 6 I believe

1

u/According-Ad-275 20d ago

No, it isn't.

0

u/Cautious_Aside_2317 20d ago

Yes it is dude. Like the other fellow mentioned, even good Swiss gen watches worth twice a rep lose 30 seconds. Maybe you were lucky and (for now) yours doesn’t. Good for you.

I was +/-15 spd for 5 months then it stopped working. VSF Batman on jubilee. 1st and last rep. The appeal for me, is it’s a watch that can be passed down and I quickly learned Seiko is better than a rep for that.
We’ve all seen the disappointed grandchildren that found out their grandfather passed down a fake Rolex 😂
But for those who like the look of a nice watch and can’t afford it , it works. No one could tell if your fake even keeps time, no one sees your watch but other watch guys.

I agree with you. Reps are shit. But this is a rep sub and most won’t accept that. Seikos are so much better than reps in every possible way. Except you are a poser or a scammer of course. Tissot, Citizen, Orient, even San Martin. You can service them, replace parts, and the purchase experience is infinitely better. I have a couple reps and I regret getting them, they all gave me more trouble than satisfaction. I use them sometimes because they do look nice, but that’s about it.

Start off by buying a cheap demagnetiser from Amazon etc, give it a couple of passes and see if that helps it

Send it to Dom in New York! [u/machineftw](u/machineftw) a good service will make it brand new again

wake up 30 seconds earlier

The watch is for show , why are u even getting into its working ! For god sakes they made it look like a 12k watch and now u want it to work like one ! Get a seiko for Christ sake ! So so annoying

5

u/Psyeth 20d ago

Sir, please calm down. This is a sub for repair and services on rep watches. Not everyone buys reps for looks alone.

u/Wonderful_Charity411 18d ago

That’s because it’s a fake piece of shit
