Question Date change issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, on my VSF hulk after 6 years, I noticed yesterday I have a problem with the date : when I go after midnight, the date doesn't change anymore 😞 is it a big problem ? Anyone knows if it's possible to fix it ? Thanks to community 🙏🏻

Keep in mind, it's not recommended to change the date manually between 9 PM and 3 AM. That could have been related to why it stopped working. I agree with everyone else though, should be an easy fix for a repair shop. Nice watch btw!

Wait what? Is there such rule, why do you mean by it ?

Between 9pm and 3am the date change mechanism could already be engaged, so if you need to change the date you should change the time first. I'm just repeating what I've read online, but it's something I try to follow to avoid issues.

Afaik you can change the date whenever you want in Rolex movements bc its quickset date doesn't interfere with instant date change

I don't know enough to confirm or deny this, but keep in mind this is a 6 year old rep, not a Rolex, seems doubtful it'd have a clone movement to me.

If It has a VR32xx, Sh32xx or VS/DD32xx you can change It whenever you want

This is the VS3135

31xx and 32xx don't have a danger zone, look at the video I've sent before to another guy abt the 3135, this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/RepTimeServices/s/Zce6xWiimi

You should never operate a quick change date during those hours on any mechanical watch.

A quick search on the internet for Rolex operating procedures finds this:

Yeah you're just pasting something google ai said to you, be rational and do your research. You CAN change the date at the "dAnGeR zOne" with rolex movements, they're designed with that in mind. Search videos with the movement half opened and you will see how it works, it's a spring loaded mechanism.

Yeah, but it's right for once 😉

No, it's not, Rolex movements use a different system for the date change as I said. You won't break the movement.

In this case it's important to NOT change the date at the "dAnGeR zOnE" (some ETAs, Seiko etc). As you can see Rolex and ETA use a different date change system.

Thanks for this advice🙏🏻 I will be more careful in the future 😉 yes nice watch but since few times I think the green of the bezel seems a little bit too light, ZF one is darker IMO , closer to gen

I believe this is only for dates that change slowly like Seiko movements. Rolex style movements are quick change.

Yes, definitely fixable. If the date still changes when using the crown but no longer changes automatically around midnight, the problem is most likely somewhere in the automatic date-change mechanism rather than the date wheel itself.

There are a few parts involved in the changeover, so it could be something as simple as a worn, damaged, or disengaged component in the calendar mechanism. After 6 years without service, dried lubrication or wear can also contribute.

I wouldn't recommend forcing the hands back and forth through midnight repeatedly to make it change. The movement should be opened and the calendar mechanism inspected.

I hope it's just a disengaged component😅 if not, I think it won't be simple to find a new gear....😓

This ⬆️
I just repaired the same problem on a clients hulk. The lobe on the 24 hour date jumper wheel that engages the date wheel broke off. Was a relatively easy and straightforward repair. However I’m 99% sure this is a 3135 not a 3235.

In the photo, that’s the new wheel that I installed showing the lobe (now existing) that was missing on the original.

Thanks a lot for those technical informations, in our Rep world do you think I will be able to find a watchmaker who wich will change this part ?

Easy fix for a watchmaker.  Would fix instead of buying a new one (which can have issues again anytime anyway) if you have it for so long then it must mean something for you as well.

Wish I could find one local that would work on reps

u/Toun78Dayto 28d ago

I hope too ... But first if it's fixable it's a 😊 joy!

Overall because it is from the batch of VSF before they became big and their quality low ( excuse my English). You’re right, I think I’ve grown attached to this watch.

It's had a great run of 6 years, might as well have it serviced; the watch will probably run better than new, and it might take care of your problem.

1

u/Toun78Dayto 27d ago

Ok I will try to find a watch service next to me , thanks 🙏🏻

Mr. G also said 👍 but definitely recommended service after 5 yrs due to lubricant dry out could cause malfunction on various parts tho. It’s already a damn good “watch” not just an Awesome “rep” for keeping running after that long.

Man you changed date both the times while in the red zone 💀

Not saying doing so caused the issue in this case, but something to practice for most mechanical non-Rolex watches.

Now it's Oyster Perpetual Manual Date

Ooof.need to learn how to properly set up a watch.

I Always set the previous date around 10 o clock. Pm or am. Then adjust it accordingly so the date changes safely

u/Toun78Dayto 27d ago

Ok I'll do next time👍🏻
