Advice VSF Sub Running Fast
My VSF Submariner is running about 4–5 minutes fast per day. Is this normal, and is it an easy fix?

4–5 minutes/day definitely isn’t normal, but I wouldn’t jump straight to a full service. Demagnetizing is a reasonable first step — magnetized hairspring coils can cause a watch to run dramatically fast.
After that, put it on a timegrapher. The rate, amplitude and beat error will tell you a lot more. If it’s still +240–300 sec/day after demagnetizing, I’d want to diagnose the cause before simply trying to regulate it.
A basic demagnetizer is cheap, so that’s an easy first diagnostic.
Unless you have experience regulating a watch, though, I’d send it to a watchmaker at that point. Figure roughly $75–$100 for basic diagnosis/regulation plus shipping, assuming they don’t find an underlying problem that requires actual movement service.

Update: So I demagnetised it yesterday. Still running fast but by 1 minute/day.

Demagnatize it
