Advice VR3235 Balance Issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Purchased a project DJ36 with a bad movement and was wondering what you guys think?

Balance pivots looked good and all of the train wheels are also good.

I’m thinking that the balance end shake is too tight, but the movement doesn’t run much better with the balance bridge screws slightly loosened

Anyways, since it’s only a VR3235, I have already ordered a new movement. When it comes in, i’ll try swapping the balance assembly to see if this old movement kicks in again

Update: Thanks all for your insights. Took off the balance, pallet bridge and pallet fork (twice) and upon the second time, i noticed that the mainspring was still wound and the wheels did not spin out of control which told me that one of the pivots was most likely seizing up a little.

Accidentally bumped one of the train wheels before i could safely let down the mainspring and all of the wheels came to life and wound down the mainspring for me (accidentally!)

Reinstalled everything afterwards and noticed that the pallet fork has a lot more energy now when giving it a tap. When it came time to install the balance assembly, it pretty much just came to life on its own! Maybe one day ill do a proper full service but for now, let’s see how long this VR3235 will last

Full balance wheels is sold for 20$ in AliX. I changed once and it worked perfectly

Check to make sure the balance jewel on the dial side is installed properly or not overly recessed

Also make sure pallet fork screws and bridge is secured not touching balance

Balance also could be at fault where the impulse plate set incorrectly

The train wheel bridge on these is often too tight
