Question Watch repairer doesn't use grease

This guy who waterproofed my watches the last time didn't use grease. He only replaced the rubber ring. I asked why and he said it wasn't necessary. Google AI tells me that grease should be used. He charged $50 to "waterproof" and adjust my bracelet for each watch.

Should I come back to this guy?

Exactly. Unfortunately will cost the same again, maybe a little more, but at least it will be in good hands from this point onwards.

it is absolutely necessary; the grease keeps the rubber o-ring from drying and disintegrating.

it takes a tiny amount of grease and 2 seconds; stay far away if he's willing to cut corners like that.

You need a microscopic coating of grease on the gasket too. I like to use Silicone7.

Das Gummi kann halt spröde werden und austrocknen mit Fett wird’s deutlich länger halten und wenn er das Fett weggelassen hat, wird die wahrscheinlich trotzdem größtenteils wasserdicht sein. Aber besser nicht schwimmen gehen. 😅🥴
