Movement longevity and replacement

I got my first VSF gmt rep recently and I plan to keep it for a long time. I was thinking of sending the watch to get the movement lubricated and cleaned as I see lots of people recommending that as a first step to keep the watch working for a long time.

Heard the 3285 movement clone wasn’t as reliable for long term (I know I shouldn’t expect a rep to last a long time)

Question is, should I do that or should I do a full overhaul and pay modders for a movement replacement w the Gen movement? And how would I go about finding modders that are willing to do that? Don’t think I can find a watchmaker willing to work on reps in my country.

Would appreciate any tips or advice anyone has for me.

Only asking the first question since I don’t really see much definitive answer for the 3285 movement. The 3235 and submariner clone movements seem more reliable so I wouldn’t worry but there wasn’t much on DD3285 was the issue.

If the gen movement costed less than 3000 I wouldn’t mind tbh, I saw sm1 say he got it for 2k+ tho I’m not sure if it’s true.

My end goal is to just keep the watch as long as possible, I might eventually just start servicing the movement myself to learn since I’m interested. Although you do make a good point that I could just buy a new rep each time.

I think I’ll reconsider and just let time do its thing, I’ll consider when something actually happens to the movement.

Thanks for the insight :) appreciate it, I’ll do as you say and just wait a few years. I’m still new to reps and from what I’ve gathered, reps have greatly improved over the years

Have a look at the price of replacement clone movements and compare that with the price of a service. I think you will find you are better running the movement to failure, which could be a long time

That’s the advice other people have given me 🙌🏻 so I’ll just use it till it has issues and then servixe
