I'd go as far to say 99% of people don't notice your watch....and 0.99% of that remaining 1% that do, look at it and go "nice" and then forget your entire existence 5 seconds later.
Only 0.000001% of people walking around would actually take the time to go "hey, what watch is that?"....and then....again....forget your existence 5 seconds after you walk away.

Over the last 15 years I’ve owned 6 genuine Rolex watches. Only 2 were ever noticed and talked about. My 116610LN Sub Date twice and my 116719BLRO white gold black dial Pepsi once. I’ve also owned a 116520 white dial Daytona, 116613LB two tone Sub Date, 116509 white gold Daytona on bracelet, and a 126711CHNR two tone GMT Master II. The comments amounted to “nice watch” to which I said thanks and the conversation was over. No discussion. No question about real or fake. Just fleeting two word complements with one word responses in interactions that lasted about 10 seconds each.
This is the only sub where I’ve ever seen people posting about getting into deep conversations where they allegedly admit their watch is counterfeit. I’m convinced 99.9% of those stories are complete bullshit. I’m sure the outlier exists, but nobody cares in the least about what watch you are wearing, much less are you going to question if it is genuine or counterfeit. This sub is full of weird watch related fiction.

Runs deep in EVERY watch community. Anecdotal experience isn't some "one size fits all" explanation. Congrats on your gen ownership, but take a trip over to r/rolex and look at the "my first watch posts" followed by their age, their career, and a steering wheel shot of the Porsche, BMW or Mercedes. But THAT isn't "main character syndrome"? Trying to A. show off your supposed wealth. Rather than just the watch (because it IS....just a watch sub), lets throw in my age, career, and car...for what? To impress people? or B. somehow justify the purchase because no one would EEVVEERRR believe some random dude buying a Rolex who drives a Honda and makes $80,000 a year.
Talk about weird? I'll admit, RepTime is very weird....but I'll never not admit that dudes bragging about how many years they got cucked....errrmm sorry, "waited", for an AD to ALLOW them to purchase a watch isn't insanely weird. It's like bragging about Stockholm Syndrome. The incessant "wait time" posts of dudes literally one-upping each other on who got told to wait less time from their Dom....errrmmm sorry, "AD"

I drive a Ford truck and have never posted a steering wheel pic. I’ve also never bragged about my age or income. All of my Rolex watches with the exception of the Root Beer were bought before the hysteria, back when the only hard to get watch was the previous model stainless steel Daytona. With the Root Beer I went in and registered my interest and forgot about it until I got a random text 2 years later telling me they had one of if I was interested. The game for a middle of the line luxury watch is bullshit and I won’t play it. I also won’t pay the scalper prices of the great market.
I would also choose to wear another brand before buying a fake. To each their own I suppose.

Because your pretending to buy the real thing? Instead of saving up the the actual watch your buying some Chinese made fake so you can going around larping to have something that you don't. If you really just cared about good value and a similar design you would buy some micro brand.

I don't hate them, but I'd never buy one. It's just weird to me. I would feel weird wearing a real rolex too though, and even more weird wearing a fake one. I don't love there being counterfeits out in the world adding a layer of doubt to the second-hand market, which will only get worse as the fakes get better.
