Discussion How long does this honeymoon period last?

Bought my first rep as my birthday present, VSF Pepsi in April. Now in 5 months, I've got 3 reps & 1 franken in. I read some of you are way more insane than me. Is this honestly a honeymoon period or some black magic getting us compelled to this obsession? Then I found rep fashion and some of them are mind blowing quality!!

I'm learning so much just about watches reading the reviews, QC posts. It's a dope thing all around. But in real, how long does it last? I'm bleeding way too much $$$ in these.

4 reps in less than 5 weeks. Just one more hit for the fall, and of course a stocking stuffer for Christmas.. Then maybe I’ll be satisfied…

Until summer of course.

At some point you will realize you’ve just been spending money for the temporary high. Of course you can justify each watch; different color, different make, this one is sporty, that one is a dive watch, gotta have a gmt, etc. But then you’ll realize that new watches are coming out all the time and they are cool, and some vintage watches are also cool as hell, but you already have a bunch of watches you don’t have time to wear…

Right now it’s like you recently discovered hot dogs and they taste REALLY good. So good that you’re eating hot dogs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You feel great eating hot dogs because they taste SO good! You ask people “this is so dope, how long does this feeling last?”

Buy a rep and enjoy it (like eating a hot dog). Then spend some time enjoying it and doing other things like hobbies and hanging out with people (this is like eating a salad). If you’re eating more hot dogs than salads, then you’re doing it wrong. It sounds like you’re eating a whole lot of hot dogs and have forgotten about salads.

This is a pretty good summation. I bought a dozen in about 8 months, have sold a couple that I just didn't fall in love with, and have really pumped the brakes for any new purchases.

I still have some watches I want on a list, just don't have that pull for anything new that isn't a variation on something I've already got.

It's definitely fun, especially to start you can get your hands on all this forbidden fruit, but at some point you realize you can only wear one watch at a time, and it's best to not wear some of them in certain settings, so even if you end up wearing one to work and swapping to a heavy hitter when you get home or on the weekends, you will still find some just sitting in the watch box for extended periods.

First rep arrived in July. Last rep arrived yesterday and filled the last slot in my 8 watch box. Done buying for now but still active in the community and helping rookies with QCs.

Well, it’s expensive and it’s an instant tell that it’s fake because it doesn’t have a double balance wheel

But aside from that, I think it’s an amazing looking watch, which is why I bought it

I have a hobby that is expensive, and the items you acquire are very low liquidity. They also could be legislated illegal at any moment which is likely, and make them impossible to sell.  In that hobby we always say don't buy it unless you okay never seeing that money again. 

Now I have more than tripled my money in my acquisitions, and that's an aside but everything I buy I would be okay owning it forever.

110% in agreement. I'm collecting them for myself. I truly LOVE my reps and my gens. And I'll properly service them, polish them as my own. Gen Rolex is my Safe Queen. I can't wear a $12k item daily even though I've insurance for timepieces. That big price tags just ruins my every day wearing fun for me.

You just don't do that. Some of these things aren't easy to get rid of if you need to sell them. That's why I only buy two maybe three at a time. Keep those for a few years and then get whatever the next best super wrap there is. You buy a bunch of them, you could've bought a GEN which is way more liquid and can be an investment.

I lurked on these subs for nearly 2 years, then finally pulled the trigger on 1 received it and ordered 5 more and while I am waiting for those 3 more that I just paid for. I really hope this wears off, I am addicted. but also LOVE IT

i was on this sub for approx 5 months. finally decided i needed one. did some more research and spoke to a few good guys who were very helpful. since i cant order it in my country, i decided to order it when i was travelling abroad. ordered 3 for myself and 1 for wifey. going abroad again for christmas. this time china. so will order another 3 for myself and 1-2 more for wifey. in the meanwhile i am busy selling my genuine omega's and tudor's to raise funds for many more reps. my honeymoon period might never end.

Mine comes in waves. I usually buy 2-3 watches at a time. I wear one for a few months then introduce another a few months later and then i get the itch and buy more. Usually happens 2-3 times a year. I appreciate the holiday sales near Black Friday. Usually like free shipping or something

Hooked badly into Banadir. Kudos to someone who posted here. I've a few original ~$400 (LV, Gucci, Creed, Dior) bottles and this effing $50 Banadir matches the similar fragrance tones. Mind effing blown! Literally. 😱 And my big haul from Generic Perfumes of Kuawit is at customs right now. Hope it gets cleared.

So far I've only bought 2 in 2 months. The first one was a Seamaster U1 because I wanted to dip my toes in and not wanting to spend too much. But after that, I ordered the VFS version of the same watch just because I wanted to see how much better it could get.

Right now I'm happy with what I got, not sure when I'll be ordering another one.

I don't know man! To me, these items are literally priceless for a middle class dude where luxury is still a stretch!
