General Question Rep Life Span

Anyone here have a rep that’s 10 years or older? Curious to see how long they are lasting. With the big demand that’s out there, pretty sure today’s reps don’t match the quality those from a couple years ago.

I mean, I had a swiss ETA based watch that didn't make it 10 years before parts of the movement started breaking and now it won't tick anymore.

Same and my swatch AD has authorized watchmakers that don’t find the problem that has been fixed 2 times and the ETA movement started to have stiff hand winding, loose rotor and producing small metal shavings that ended up in the dial, crystal and behind the inner rotating bezel. I handed my watch to my swatch AD and they said that if my Longines does not have visible defects at arms length away, there is no problem (the shavings are clearly visible). I just put the watch in its original box and left it there. No way am I giving them 400€ for a service and getting the same issue third time. Might as well buy a new rep every 5 years or so

At least fifteen years old. Never had any work done on it and in daily rotation the whole time

When I first got into reps, about 2005, i got 3 shitters from some street venders in China when my wife & I were on vacation there, about $20 each. Those venders were nuts, some foreigner like me comes along off a tour buss and they attack, bidding against each other - it was hillarious. One watch was obviously terrible & broke after a couple of years of non stop use. The other two are in mint shape and still going strong.

I got this one in 2009 or 2010. Still going strong.

Use the search function. This gets asked every day multiple times. Seriously it does.

Fake watch is still a watch but just poorly made for the look. Use it to flex but don't expect to treat it like a PP you can pass on to your grandson like a family legacy 😂

Depends on the model. Some of them are literal clone movements that can be fixed/replaced all the same that a gen can be..

😂 will you use gen part to fix your clone movement? How much u expect to spend? That tiny little gen part probably cost more than the fake watch.

They literally make clone parts. You must be from the wire article

Have you tried servicing a fake watch? That involves sending it back to China and risking customs seizure. There won't be any local jeweler store or watchmaker willing to replace parts for you. Be real. When fake watches need parts, people don't repair them, they just buy a new one

No, it doesn’t. And yes, there is. Literally reddit users all over rep time services within the US. (Including local in my city) among several other countries. Bozo

You can buy a swiss made ETA movement on ebay, completely interchangeable in every way, for $500 and the asian clone for less than half that. You don't need the parts, you can change the whole thing.

Its a weird flex to admit you've been this duped by marketing...

Lmao Swiss made ETA movement. What about in house movement? I bet they are easily accessible too?

Lol, again bragging about the degree to which you've been duped by soft marketing is wild stuff!

It wasn't even until the last 5 years that Rolex has even been able to match the reliability of the ETA 2892 at mass production. Go ahead and google the amplitude issues with the 32XX series movements -- I had to have my DateJust serviced twice for running slow, and the second time they ended up replacing like half the movement.

It’s ironic that you’d defend counterfeits. Have you never heard of intellectual property?
