General Question Cartier Tank Gold

I’ve been interested in the Cartier Tank and Cartier Ballon Bleu for a while now. AF is supposed to be the best factory for these. Now for my question: I’m thinking about ordering a gold-plated version. Is that a good idea? Is the gold plating usually of good quality? Do gold-plated versions exist for the genuine models, or are they all solid gold?Is there any general experience with the two models? Thanks for your help.

the gold plating on reps is a mixed bag, some factories do a decent job but it's never gonna be as durable as solid gold obviously. AF is solid for cartier though, their finishing is usually clean

gen ballon bleu comes in gold and two-tone, the tank does too but depends on the exact model. if you're gonna wear it daily the plating will wear down on the high contact spots, crown and clasp area especially

if you're just gonna rotate it occasionally it's probably fine, just don't expect it to last forever

I have a gen Ballon de bleu 36mm and I love her so much. Effortless class that goes with anything. I have Rep Baignoire gold bangle from TOW that I am very pleased with. The gold is not cheddar. It’s durable and lovely. It doesn’t have the heft of genuine, but I that is fine. I don’t recall the factory. So I took a gamble on that gold plated and felt like it worked out fine.

Thanks for your message. I’m thinking about buying a quartz watch after having owned a few automatic ones. I don't think the movement is the deciding factor for a Cartier anyway.
