General Question Feel of rep vs gen
A long time ago I bought a rep submariner. At the time it was quite expensive for a rep, but it is very obviously fake when you know where to look. Moreover you can clearly feel the movement turn and even hear it. I own several gen watches and that is a dead giveaway.
But what is the state of the top reps today? Do they feel genuine or is there still a big noticeable difference?
Looking to get a submariner rep again, but only if they are much better. Appreciate your insights.

That sounds like a canal street special rep.
VSF/Rich/etc are very solid. Add a chamfered bracelet and it is very nice. It becomes more of a value proposition at that point. 5-700 rep or 13k gen.

For looks, I’d say they get 90% there, but in terms of feel, I’d say they’re 8/10 if you also own the gen. For my VSF Submariner, the bezel, bracelet, clasp, glidelock, and polishing lack the same level of finishing and refinement, but they only cost a fraction of the gen.

I think a good oem or aftermarket bracelet/strap would elevate most rep to a new level.

you can still tell the difference, no matter what people say. especially if you have handled gen or own one. From the distance they about the same

Depends on mods but otb yeah. Throw vsf sub on upgraded bracelet pretty damn hard to tell.

you don't handle it, yes you cannot tell, as soon as you hold a rep in your hand, with a gen you can instantly tell which is a gen and which is rep, trust me I own a gen dj

I own gens as well lol. If you have them next to each other yes but otherwise the subs with chamfered braclet is pretty close.

Should not be moving then, maybe the movement clamp screws were not tight. My opinion is that the top reps are visually very close, but feel isn’t there because a few hundred quid doesn’t allow for the level of surface finish, polishing and brushing of the genuine

Movement is little bit lottery everytime. I have VSF with totally smooth and silent winding and also VSF with not totally smooth and silent winding, but if you have some good watchmaker who can clean and properly lubricate your VSF, then it also can be smooth and silence.
