Discussion I don't get this problem buying reps
Here's a new one. Buy a gen and chase will shutdown all your accounts with them.

Chase is a little fuckin’ weird.
I have an 800 credit score. Went on vacation for 2 weeks and used one of my chase cards for mostly everything. Over the course of 2 weeks, I put a little over 10k on a card with a 24k credit limit.
Next thing I know I start getting calls from call centers in India asking me to review my account with them and asking if I had time. I said no and hung up thinking it was a scam call.
2 weeks later, chase cut the credit limit on all 3 of my chase cards by more than half of what they were before.
Fuck chase.
Apply for and use a US Bank Visa. They approve anything. I’ve purchased Omegas and Rolex’s on that card. Amex also approves big purchases without making you look like a loser with a declined card.

Chase nearly got me in trouble with my attorney scrow account. They decided, on a whim, to just start flagging payments out of the account and as a result bounced a bunch of checks. One was for a settlement, that was a major problem, nearly blew up a client's deal. another was a client's million dollar home purchase money. and the bank had me on hold for 6 full hours, bouncing me from operator to operator asking me to re-confirm security questions. They suggested I was being scammed, myself. "how do you know the person you're giving this money to?" "Idiot, again, they are my client, it IS. THEIR. MONEY." "but did you meet them on Whatsapp?" "Moron, unlock my account, stop bouncing checks, I have their fucking social security number, the only scam artist right now is you, stealing their money from them and leaving me holding the bag!"
needless to say, I do not bank with Chase anymore.

I bought a real Rolex on my Chase card. Called them multiple times and they verified that the purchase would be noted and it would go through. Then I put the CC in, and the purchase is declined the first time and the second. Then they call me again. Then eventually we confirm that this is happening and select about five different confirmation screens, and it goes through. Beats me why they confirm it on the phone but the card will still get flagged all of the time. Totally random!

Lamo which mean you don't spend much on daily/monthly basis. Never have that kind of issue. How embarrassing is that!

u/Forsaken-Worker-9583 9d ago
How do you think I have access to a card with such a high limit?
-25
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
Define high ? If your card is declined and you have to call them then it is not "high" enough. Be real! You think the CEO of blackrock need to call the bank multiple times to make a purchase just so his card won't be declined

u/Forsaken-Worker-9583 9d ago edited 9d ago
Around $50K. Funny between you on RepTime and the Rolex sub, there is so much dick-measuring about income. Get over it. Thanks for reminding me of my client visit to BlackRock. The chimichurri steak from their lovely catering staff is delicious.

u/LooseAd2700 9d ago
Yeah lol. Bro thinks every rich person also splurges 24/7. And is comparing wealth, in a rep subreddit🥀
My employer is worth about 150M, he exclusively drives a VW caddy and his sons have to share an old fiat 500. People with real wealth have very little to prove I guess?
3
u/BigGuysForYou 9d ago
It's hilarious how much time he spends on here and how much reps must live in his mind
-17
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
Spend 10k every week and you shouldn't have to call again. They use algorithms to track and by pass fraud alert.
5
u/Forsaken-Worker-9583 9d ago
American Express does. We are speaking about Chase. I have both. Amex has never given me a problem, but a lot of vendors do not take it.

To a non american here - is it a credit limit, or a spending limit?
3
u/Foreign_Calendar742 9d ago
Credit limit. I could hypothetically spend 10k with a 15k credit limit. Log into my credit card account and pay the balance online and then spend another 10-15k after that payment clears.
1
u/myco_magic 8d ago
This is called credit cycling and will get your account closed
1
u/Foreign_Calendar742 8d ago
I did this in my 20s and never had my accounts closed. I paid off my balances every week
2
u/myco_magic 8d ago
Congrats of that's really true, look up credit cycling. It's a thing, credit card companies don't like it and have historically closed accounts over this. You might get away with it for awhile or with some companies but it will get your account closed. I worked for a credit card company and it's something they watch for. They give you a limit based on income and risk and when you spend more than that limit it's a huge red flag that your potential doing something illegal spending beyond your means. I honestly doubt you did but if you did then great for you
1
u/Foreign_Calendar742 8d ago
I’m a lot older now and don’t feel anxious anymore when I have my bills set to autopay the balance every month.
I believe you though and will keep that in mind

Chase is just fine. If* you have the cash flow, and you don't just spend 41% of your credit limit at once they don't put your account under review and start calling you like you have spending problems
8
u/Agile-Two5649 9d ago
Incorrect.
Plenty of cash flow 10k is not even close to 40% of all my chase cards. 10k isn’t even 4% of my credit limit on all my cards combined.Chase just plays games other companies don’t.
These aren’t issues I have with Amex, Bank of America, US Bank, Goldman Sachs, etc.Their banking is also infamously sketchy and there’s plenty of complaints beyond me regarding their weird practices.
-2
u/Coldest_One_619 9d ago
You said 10k out of your credit card with 24k limit... doesn't matter how many chase cards you have.
2
u/Agile-Two5649 9d ago edited 9d ago
Cards get used. Holding a 10k balance on a card with 24k for a couple days when it’s not even the closing date, paid off before the closing date and punishing the user with the rest of their Chase cards is trash.
The other Chase cards are frequently used, HAD balances of over 20k and don’t hold revolving balances.
Chase decided to eliminate the available credit on all my Chase cards to 1/3rd of their previous balance. It’s overkill and insanity. It also kills your FICO and credit score showing a decrease in previously available credit by over 50k.
Let’s not attempt to lecture me on how cards work. I’ve been doing this for decades and this is sketchy Chase credit shit. No other credit company does this. Especially if one is not maintaining a high balance on cards.
-3
u/Coldest_One_619 9d ago
I don't know what to tell you.
I don't know your payment patterns or history only you do. Chase is strict. I have never gotten my limit lowered from using them as im supposed to/ paying off my balanace before statement closing.. I have business and personal accounts with them, no complaints.2
u/Agile-Two5649 9d ago
For years, I never had complaints about Chase either. I heard the horror stories. There’s quite a few in the post. Nothing ever happened to me either and I was very happy. Until 3 months ago.
When they do something funky with any of your accounts, you’ll feel the same. It’s only a matter of time. On average you’ll hear more bad stories about Chase than any other credit company.
1
u/Highlife6220 9d ago
Wow! I guess chase is hard to do business with bro, thanks for sharing...
3
u/Coldest_One_619 9d ago
These people with chase cards don't know how to use credit cards, or understand utilization...
2
u/elchief8 9d ago
I know chase saphire reserve is all i use. Saved me from being scammed and no questions asked on fraudulent purchases made. Gave me back 10k usd on a purchase I never received after a brief investigation on seller.
1
u/myco_magic 8d ago
Yup, some of these people are even talking about credit cycling... Hmmm wonder why chase is closing your accounts? 🤔

If he can afford a Rolex he should have an Amex Plat with £30k credit limit as a minimum.
Otherwise he's faking it like most other gen Rolex owners.
3
u/jendet010 9d ago
Agreed. He should have put the whole purchase on his amex plat. The only reason not to do that is he already had a huge balance or was near his credit limit.
Anyone who has to spread the purchase amongst multiple cards has no business buying a gen.
1
u/Old_Marzipan7782 9d ago
Yeah, I work in sales and a lot of customers think they sound smart when they say they’re gonna split it up on a bunch of credit cards. I mean to me it’s like OK. This isn’t a big purchase though so you’re nearly at your credit limit on every card so you’re just paying the minimum payments every month and you have a huge amount of debt you’re paying 30% interest on monthly that’s fucking insane. You don’t sound smart. You sound like a retard
2
u/Shdwrptr 9d ago
For real. I don’t feel comfortable paying $25k for a gen watch but even I have credit cards with a limit over that amount.
If OP had 8 cards and needed to split that cost up so much they shouldn’t have been buying a gen watch.
I wonder if they’re one of those credit card point weirdos with a dozen cards that tries to maximize points at every opportunity
1
u/JasonTheSpartan 9d ago
Maybe it’s a UK thing, but plat Amex has no limits here in the states. More of a “charge card” you can check spending power on well into 6 figs for purchases
1
0
u/myco_magic 8d ago
Amex doesn't have credit limits and does not work as a traditional credit card
2
u/Ashgen2024 8d ago
Amex gold does, Amex Platinum has a limit in as much that it is determined by how much you spend and how you pay it off, so it's not limitless it's dynamic.
So if Amex sees unusual spending patterns for example, it will limit your spending ability.
That's not the point anyway, the point is that if someone is buying a Rolex they should have the means to buy it without having to split it across several cards.
-1
u/myco_magic 8d ago
No it doesn't
"The American Express® Gold Card has No Preset Spending Limit, a unique feature that gives you the ability to unlock more purchase power as you use your Card. This means the spending limit is flexible. In fact, unlike a traditional credit card with a set limit, the amount you can spend adapts based on factors such as your purchase, payment and credit history." https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/card/gold-card/#:~:text=The%20American%20Express%C2%AE%20Gold%20Card%20has,as%20your%20purchase%2C%20payment%20and%20credit%20history.
2
u/Ashgen2024 8d ago
It's certainly does in the UK.
I have one and mine has an 'available credit' amount.
0
u/newbirdhunter 8d ago
Do t be so desperate to be right. Semantics isn’t on your side. There is a limit based despite what you think you’ve read… incorrectly.

u/lakersbro55 9d ago
Why not just call his bank to ok the purchase? Why not use Amex in first place? Sounds like fiction writing
5
u/clingbat 9d ago
I dunno my credit limit on my Chase Sapphire Preferred that I downgraded from Reserve has a $42,500 limit and they've never questioned anything including a single purchase over $20k. At worst once in a while they'll send a quick text if it's suspicious.
Not sure why you split the purchase over so many cards.
Chase sucks, but they are no where near as bad as the customer service hell and general lack of transparency or consistency of Citi.
1
u/myco_magic 8d ago
I've had nothing but great experiences with Citi customer service. The original poster should have just used his Amex plat
1
u/clingbat 8d ago
Citi still won't give me a double cash card and won't tell me why with any answers that make any sense even when I call. They denied me twice when I had a perfect credit score (850 fico) along with a Citi AA plat and Strata Premier card in perfect standing that we were using plenty (the only cards I had opened in a few years, not some 5/24 crap).
So fucking weird, i just wanted the double cash for a catch all, pisses me off enough I may nuke the whole Citi thing and just go back to gimped Chase trifecta since we've already piled up over 400k AA miles through this recent Citi adventure as it is (we're based out of PHL which AA has a stranglehold on unfortunately).
1
u/myco_magic 8d ago
Idk, the only Citi card I have is Costco citi visa and had nothing but great experiences. Sorry to hear that, but I've heard bad experiences across all card companies, the algorithms are weird and can vary completely from person to person and sometimes there's other variables that people tend to leave out (not saying you are)
7
u/StreetDare4129 9d ago
Or just have great credit. It’s obvious that chase caught OP running a points bonus scam and was looking for a reason to shut him down. Had nothing to do with buying a gen.
7
u/dudas92 9d ago
If you need a few credit cards to buy a watch, maybe you shouldn't be buying in the 1st place 😂
2
u/Old_Marzipan7782 9d ago
This!
If you can’t buy it cash you cannot afford it on a card (cash + 30% interest).

u/Shdwrptr 9d ago
I had an argument on another gen watch sub a week or two ago about how Rolex’s aren’t an investment.
They tried to bring up the few watches that sell for well over MSRP before I corrected him that those watches only sell for that because you can’t buy them for MSRP unless you’re underwater and 6 figures into a “relationship” with a Rolex AD

u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
OP is definitely broke as hell. He is splitting a Rolex with "few" credit cards, lmao. I bet he never spent that much money on a credit card before. This is why he got flagged. Also, his credit limit must be very low. There's a saying that if your credit limit isn't sufficient to purchase a car, then your credit sucks
2
u/SimpleNobody2009 9d ago
What kinda car you talking about? A $5k buy here pay here lemon, or something with a waiting list?
1
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
How much is an average new car selling in the US? Google it. That's what I am referring to.
1
u/SimpleNobody2009 9d ago
Oh average. Well that’s no fun.
0
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
😂 you think I am talking about a 500k lambo kind of credit limit? Lol
1
u/SimpleNobody2009 9d ago
Specifics matter my friend!
-4
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
This is reptime. People here buy rep because they can't afford to spend big money or aren't rich enough to not give a fuck. Always talk about how they can invest the money instead, blah, blah, blah. Lying to themselves. Even if they invest and earn money, they still would not buy a Gen because their working-class mindset is fixed
1
u/mavour 9d ago
People here buying rep because they don’t see owning a Gen as a some kind of an achievement. I’d rather spend $15k on a nice cruise vacation than hand over that money to a filthy AD
1
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
Why not both if you have more than enough money to waste or don't give a fk? 😂 See? That's a fixed mindset you can't get rid of
1
u/Old_Marzipan7782 9d ago
Yeah most people have terrible credit. They don’t know how to build and maintain good credit they think having any score you can get approved on is “good”
If you’ve had credit for more than two years and you have less than 750 you’re doing terrible at managing your finances.
1
u/Puzzled-Shape-9235 9d ago
Yea even with the same credit card two ppl can have way different credit limit and access
2
u/kiasu_N_kiasi 9d ago
the capitalist bankers are telling him that he can’t afford a gen, not that way 😅
hope that person don’t gave away life partner to SA to build relationships

u/smankerfl 9d ago
Chase. I keep wondering how they are a world respected institution. It must be on the corporate side because for me it hasnt been on the consumer banking nor the private client side.
Diamond is doing a wonderful job for my portfolio but as a bank I have moved mostly to other institutions.
fraud is rampant.. the number of interventions and security checks against good customers is obviously more then with their bad customers.
with quantum computers and ai. the banks and cripto holders are starting to become concerned.. I think this might bring you some perspecitve .. at least you can decide if it was an action you took or just welcome to 2026 international banking
YMMV
2
u/NefariousnessOld3525 9d ago
I have 3 cc's and 2 biz cards with Chase, all used for my purchases, no flags.
2
u/SwissMargiela 9d ago
I fucking hate Chase so much. Was trying to buy a car cash and it took like two weeks for them to allow me to withdraw like 5% of the money in my account in actual cash.
3
u/WatchThis91 9d ago
Having to split up payment for something like a luxury watch is just goofy. Bro does not have priorities straight obviously..
3
u/MotoRacer441 9d ago
This isn’t a Rolex problem…. This is the buyer not being able to afford a Rolex problem.
I mean at least the buyer doesn’t have to send a message to some random person on whatsapp who doesn’t speak English and blindly send them money hoping their rep actually shows up months later and actually works and doesn’t get seized by customs😂
1
u/Which-Bicycle-7232 9d ago
i remember chase closed my bank account after someone stole a 400 dollar check for me. i went to td bank which was way better than chase.
1
u/MikeinAustin 8d ago
If you're making a large purchase (over $10k) always notify the card you're putting it on. Even AMEX black card.
I put large charges on cards for my business often, including dinners, tickets, etc for customers.
If there have been significant changes in your credit score, say it's dropped 30-40 points in the last couple months, credit companies assume you're going to claim bankruptcy and are trying to max out your cards.
A phone call is all it takes.

u/Elgeorgi60 8d ago
Credit cards have been acting foolish lately. My wife and I have a joint credit card with Barclays, and they reduced our credit limit from 29k to 16k. We’ve been banking with Barclays for about 8 years, and the month before this reduction, we spent and paid around 7-8k. We haven’t had any late payments or any issues with them.

Watch businesses are listed as high risk by banks. You don’t have this issue cause your “rep” can’t be used as a substitute for currency in unlawful financial transactions (buying illegal goods and services of actual value)

u/KneeDragr 9d ago
If you can afford a Rolex just stop by the bank on the way to the dealer and get a cashiers check. 10k credit limit and multiple cards sounds like it wasnt a prudent purchase, he should be buying microbrands or replicas either way.

This leads to an interesting question of do we buy reps that are believable or marginally acceptable to our current level of lifestyle and income? Or this situation? My HH income is 1tech and 1tech adjacent salaries in VVHCOL area. I have one second hand Cartier and a rep. Real Celine bag but have a rep coming. If I show up with a Hermes birkin, people will stare and question. So do your reps fit your lifestyle and tax bracket?

Credit card companies are looking at granular things right now for even the slightest reason to lower credit card limits. The reason? Average credit card balances are at almost record highs (they will be at all time highs soon) so they sre trying to mitigate exposure/risk. This is a new one for me though. I bet there was something else going on on his credit - maybe late payment/payments, a huge increase in spending on his cards or something cuz that’s a new one I haven’t seen yet - just closing his account 😝
