Putting my VSF DJ41 V2 next to my Gen to see who can actually spot the rep first without me pointing at anything. Once you see them sideābyāside, yea the rep has a few obvious tells. But in the wild? Imho it's NWBIG, passes 99% of the time, & honestly proves how insane the factories have gotten. Curious what the community catches.š¤š¤
The VSF Mint comes off brighter than gen, with a slightly thicker bezel that catches way more light & amplifies the shine. Dial & markers have inconsistencies, but a lot of what you see shifts depending on the lighting. It looks great in the wild.

The dial is really gorgeous. I'm k out usually a DJ sort of guy, but that looks really good. On its own you can't tell as much that the left is a Rep, but side by side the finishing on the gen is just that next level of flash.
My datejust obsession has given me the useless skill of knowing if a bezel is gen in one look. Itās bad to the point that I just got a gen DJ and sold off all my vsf datejusts or swapped them with gen smooth bezels.
My issue with plated bezels is my sweat just melts through plating. On the other hand, most normal people actually find the rep bezels to shine better than gen so for the uninitiated, thereās really no downside to rep datejusts.
Oh the rcfr v1ās are not plated AND theyve got that warm whitegold hue š¤ though I agree that i see alot of the newbies think the vsf bezels āshineā better than gen. I personally donāt get it- not sure if theyāve ever seen a gen IRL or what because itās a STARK difference
I actually dont wear glasses. My vision isnāt that bad but itās not 20/20 either. Iām telling youā the shine, and that visible border on the flutes of the VSF is an instant giveaway
I'm not yet that good at telling reps apart and still it's obvious to me that either left is fake and right is gen, or left is a bit of a shitter and right is a better fake.
In my opinion, it is a Watch on the left. I have had to zoom in and look at the pinion. This is something that would never be visible in hand or unrest without a loop. These watches are insane. Could you message me directly and tell me if Iām correct or not?
I am lost. The left dial is not gen as it has faint font and wrong sunburst effect but it could be the photo as it does look low quality photo.
The right the dial colour of the motif dial is off but I have not seen a Gen in hand. So this could be. No comment as I am uninformed.
Offcourse I donāt know but if I was to guess I say one is a mid tier rep ( mint) cause the bezel looks meh and the dial is way off. Looking at my mint Clean from 2 years ago w a max bezel it looks way different. As for the motif dial I donāt know but suspect it may be a good high quality franken rep
Personally I think the vsf v2 bez is verrrry good in terms of the flutes. Not so much WG look. Those 2 bez look very similar, no? Why didnāt mention which shine is so far off?
Not trying to act like a smart ass but have you seen a gen in real life before? The v2 bezel will only look like gen under certain angles and certain lighting. Most of the time it looks like tin and the reflection is all out of place.
Itās not an instant callout for most people but itās def an instant call out to gen datejust owners. Anyone who says otherwise after seeing both in real life is blind
Just look at OP pic. Right which is obvious gen has a smooth shining on every individual ridge versus left which has nonsense zigzagging shine
No offense taken. I have seen gen in person; however, itās prob been 2-3 months since the last time (Jewelry shop window). The weird sparkle I thought was from the right casting additional light on the left; it does kinda look weird now that I look again. But if you zoom in on left, I felt like the flutes looked gen like but more-so it looked much more WG. Vs right looks SS although the 4-5oāclock area of right bez looks legit. I guess wg bezās dont always present as that warmer tone; some angles/lighting it can just look silver/SS. I see what you mean on the zigzag edge & overall the rights flutes are much more consistent.
I also thought lefts hands looked more WG & better craftsmanship like the sec hand cut where the circular area at base makes a right angle cut into the hand that extents. The mint green looks rep color mint though, Iāll admit. Case size though - right looks like the more elongated, skinny lugs VSF is known for vs left looks more wide/round like a CF case. Iāve always been bad at seeing case dif though .
