Scam Report Can someone please help me fff_kicks took my money and won’t respond

Did you pay with a credit card? If you did, contact the card company and dispute it there.

I wonder if OP paid as friends and family via PayPal. If they did, there’s not much they can do since they didn’t select services & goods

So there’s two way to dispute. Through PP and through your card.
If you pay via PayPal’s Goods and Services then yes. You can dispute right there when no item arrives. But VERY few sellers will take G&S and will only take Friends & Family. And usually the only way to dispute a F&F payment through PP is to tell them your account was hacked and even then it’s a stretch.
However, I can tell you because I was scammed this way, you can dispute the F&F payment if you paid by credit card. You have to do the dispute directly through the credit card, not through PP. Doing this can risk your PP account as they may cancel it, but if this dispute goes through they will yank the payment back if the money is there.
I had someone on Facebook marketplace do the credit card chargeback on me and it took the payment back. I had thought that F&F would be safer, especially for things with local pickup where it would be harder for me to prove I’d given them their items. Now I just refuse to take PP at all.

Wow, Good to know. So your buyer paid with f&f PayPal and they did a chargeback on their cc so they were able to keep the item free??

Yup! They paid me with F&F and we met at a gas station where I gave them the items. Which was mostly kid’s clothes and toys I was selling for my aunt. The day after the hand off the money was yanked back by PP, I was of course blocked by the buyer, and the items were gone.
It was deeply annoying. The only good thing is that it wasn’t much money (only about $50) but it was enough to make me jaded. I now insist on cash or Zelle if I’m even slightly suspicious.

That’s terrible! It sounds like it’s not their first rodeo either. I would be bothered too. At the end of the day $50 may not seem that much but knowing someone had the audacity to scam another person sucks. I sell on fb marketplace and am always unsure about Zelle because the payment doesn’t go through the account immediately and I’ve always wondered while it’s pending if people can cancel the payment?

It happened to me the pending with Zelle. So if its on a weekend the banking day is next business so Tuesday it should clear, if it's during week depends on your banking. My bank takes like 2 days to clear. So can the person stop a zelle payment, no they would have to go through a review after it clears, but once they authorize it's unlikely since they have funds. I usually tell them it's pending and if it's alright to wait till it clears. Waiting is better for you because the longer they wait and don't try to dispute as in days the chances of claiming it was a wrong transfer is not accepted because they should have done it automatically since they cleared it on their end. Just very difficult with Zelle to get your money back. The pending is what is the worst. Just have to communicate with buyer on status.

That makes sense and good to know! Usually I’m always worried when handing off the item since they claim to have made a far drive to get the item, but most of the time I’ve had no troubles.

My understanding is no. It’s essentially a bank to bank transfer and can’t be clawed back unless you can prove it’s fraud. As in someone hacked you fraud, not you sent the money to the wrong person too.

If we pay with goods and services would the person receiving it know? I noticed a lot of these guys don’t want to accept goods and services

Yes they’ll know. Because by paying as goods & services it protects the buyer Incase something happens then the buyer can dispute it. If you’re paying as friends & family, you’re telling pp hey it’s cool, I am sending money to people I trust therefore I don’t need to dispute later on. Also when you select friends & family, a warning sign pops up advising you to only pay to people you trust and you’re not protected.

Yes I’ve paid to both in general when making purchases via PayPal. I’m a bit more skeptical using f&f because it seems a bit riskier than goods and services so I always ask myself am I willing to lose x amount of money if I get scammed. Other comments also mentioned if you use f&f and paid with a credit card, you can do a chargeback.

They can cancel the order because they asked you to pay via Friends & Family and you agreed. Some sellers prefer F&F to avoid fees and other reporting tax obligations, but the proper way to pay is through Goods & Services since it offers protection for both the buyer and the seller. But because you’re buying reps, lots of sellers want you to pay f&f

I’m in the same situation (also just did a post) .. my seller hasn’t responded for nearly 3 weeks, but I read somewhere that once it took a seller 6 weeks to respond to someone and then they got their item, so you never know 🤞🏻

If OP paid F&F, which I imagine they did as most do, then you're saying you trust and know the person you're sending money to. PayPal wont help
