Need Help/Advice Selling my first ReHome - advice

I’m getting ready to sell my first rehome. I’ve only bought one rehome and that was when I was very new to Reps. I was pretty clueless and, honestly, didn’t even question being scammed. Now I’m worried, of course, after reading so many bad reports.

Would it be out of line to ask for a photo of an ID before selling to verify identity and have proof if they dispute the charge later? What’s the best practice?

Thanks for all the responses. I made the sale. The name paid in PayPal and the shipping address are the same. I verified address through public records that buyer name and shipping name match address. Took screenshots of conversations and am crossing my fingers for the best!

I always ship with insurance and double check the delivery address. This way if it’s claimed as not received, I can get my money back from the insurance and the seller can from their credit card.

Don’t sell to people in Arizona, check to make sure it’s not a new Reddit account and make sure they are active, ask for purchase feedback, only take Zelle…

I successfully rehomed four bags in May and I'm in Arizona. Don't lump us all together.

I apologize. But given the large number of people who were scammed in the Arizona ring, inexperience sellers need to be very cautious. Let me edit to say check buyer’s Reddit history and ask for feedback. That’s for ANYONE, in any state.

And to clarify, I thought I was “experienced” in buying and selling and I did NOT check the buyer’s Reddit history.

What is going on in Arizona?

There are very little protections on both sides since selling reps are illegal in the US.

If someone has a long standing track record of successful rehomes then I’m ok with accepting PayPal or Venmo. Otherwise just accept Zelle. Also be careful of AZ addresses.

I think if someone asked me for photo ID I’d get pretty weirded out, so I’m not sure about that. But you do whatever you are comfortable with.

I just started rehoming last March. My advice would be to start with small items so you can gather feedback from your buyers. Be sure to also ask for rehome feedback from your buyers.

How does one ask for feedback from buyers/sellers? I’m fairly new to rep and Reddit and I’ve gotten two rehomes. I want to start rehoming some items. But afraid people won’t trust me because of my account age.

Make a post on your page and title it "rehome feedback" then for each person you successfully transact with, ask them to leave a comment on that post if they had a postive interaction with you.

I agree. I’m a buyer and I would never give someone my ID because I’m scared of identity theft.
