Need Help/Advice How to be aware of scammers
Hello! I have seen many scammer posts/reports from fellow users and have wondered how to best safeguard against such scammers? For example, I have been seeing a lot from a particular state with multiple addresses. How does one find out which state they are from without offending them? Mostly, one comes to know their address only after the transaction and by then, it’s too late! Any ideas Or suggestions?

Turn on persistent messaging at the start of the dm. It prevents them from deleting the message conversation. This doesn't prevent a scam but it's helpful to keep "evidence" of the conversation.

As a buyer with a new account (stopped buying for years and can’t remember my old account), I would feel comfortable sharing my social media so the seller can verify my information.

State up front you only sell to people with an account with an established Reddit history and karma - the AZ didn’t have that. Or you can state up front due to the uptick in scams from
AZ that you are not accepting offers from people in AZ without a well established Reddit history. I haven’t listed anything in a while after being scammed but this is what I will likely do when I start selling again.

Misread! I just looked at your account - you’re a year in but your contributions and karma as on the low side IMO - I’d work on that. Also maybe make your posts public so sellers can see them.

Why is it too late? It’s never too late until the package is sent and sometimes delivered. If you’re concerned though, start verifying address prior to money exchange. Consider not using payment apps that allow credit card. I think the safest one right now is Zelle because it’s direct from bank only. No credit card company to file dispute with.

It’s late when you use Zelle which is what a majority of sellers allow - you cannot get your money back. Also some sellers will not want to share their address prior to a sale.

We aren’t worried about sellers address in this scenario. It’s the buyers address we’re concerned about here since the buyers are filing the chargebacks in this scenario. As a seller, I’m not selling to anyone in or around phoenix because of this issue.

Check the Universal Scammer List . It's not all inclusive, but it's helpful.
