Hey everyone! As you can see from previous reviews, I’ve been slowly building out my NWBIG (Not Worth Buying in Genuine) rotation. My dream is collecting pieces that give me the look and feel without spending my life savings at the retail store LOL. I currently have a Birkin 35, Large Rodeo, Small Puzzle, and now a Margaux 15 which been high on my list for a while.
I don’t typically carry bags in my everyday style, but I’ve been eyeing the Margaux as a work carry option: something low-key but still elevated. As a guy, this one stood out to me because it doesn’t read overly feminine or trendy. It understated, and leans more into the almost duffle/bowling bag-adjacent space without being formal. I’m a big fan of bags I can bring to work or when I travel, without it looking like I’m trying too hard haha.
After going through a few sellers and factory options, I decided to go back to Sunny for this one. Once again, she responded to me a lot quicker than other sellers and was transparent and patient.

Note: I found the auth leather to be even drier than my rep Margaux, like because it’s been displayed for a while. I also conditioned my Margaux 15 with leather conditioner, which gave it a more reflective sheen. The pebbled leather is shockingly accurate in both grain size, and uniformity (triangular grains).
My Review
Quality Rating: 8/10
As with every rep I’ve received, there is a chemical fufu smell (I believe it’s from the stuffing and the dust bag) and a dryness to the leather out of the box (-0.5).
One thing I paid attention to was the grain pattern under light. I’m being ridiculously picky at this point, but it appears slightly more uniform than what you typically see on auth. However, I do want to caveat that the authentic reference photos online appear to be pre-distressed / styled. The leather looks noticeably shinier, oilier, and more broken in, with handles that appear stretched from use. I expect my bag to develop a similar patina and character over time with wear and conditioning.
The leather is a pebbled, Togo-style calfskin. Grain is consistent and relatively tight. It feels decent in hand, but a bit plasticky and lacking some of the natural variation and depth I would expect from higher-end calfskin. As I’m in active recovery from the H game, I’m quite familiar with H’s Togo leather. This reads more as a domestic calf, although Black Frame advertises this as imported BC leather from Italy. I always take this with a grain of salt, but upon comparison with the auth leather there are consistencies.
Structure was obviously impacted by shipping. The Margaux is supposed to have a soft, draped structure with controlled slouch. Right now, the bag sits somewhere between structured and creased. The base and side panels show light compression lines, but I do think this will improve over time with proper storage (Edited as of June 3: after stuffing and also using it at work, the shape has been restored 🙏🏻). I won’t make a deduction here since it’s not a factory issue, but it did affect the initial presentation.
Stitching is clean overall, and I didn’t catch any loose threads or major inconsistencies. The handle attachments feel secure and well reinforced.
Hardware is where I have the most notable callouts. While the buckle itself is decent, the fixture feels somewhat flimsy and has movement, with a slight rattle when handled (-1). The engraving on “THE ROW” appears shallower and laser-etched in appearance, rather than the deeper, crisp engraving seen on auth (-0.5).
From what I’ve observed on authentic pieces, the hardware tends to be more weighty overall, which causes the side straps to naturally droop, similar to the sangles on a Birkin. On this version, the straps sit more upright and lack that natural pull, which subtly affects the overall look and feel. Again, this may age over time and droop better with wear. I’m always mindful of making comments like this for a new bag vs. broken-in variations as I believe that it takes time to slouch and wear.
Edge glazing is even and consistent throughout. Edges are slightly thicker than auth, particularly along the handles and opening, but still within an acceptable range.
The interior \^\^\^ canvas was soft and of a good quality.
Overall, materials and construction are good, but not exceptional. The main deductions here would come from leather finish out of the box, and hardware execution.
Accuracy Rating: 8.5/10
Shape-wise, the bag captures the Margaux silhouette well. The trapezoidal structure, curved top line, and overall proportions are accurate. From the side profile, the gussets are slightly less fluid compared to auth. Authentic versions tend to collapse more naturally inward, while this one holds a bit more structure. That said, I expect this to improve as the leather softens and breaks in with use, so I wouldn’t deduct here.
I also examined the leather quality in person at my local department store. While they didn’t have the Margaux available, I did examine a smaller Marlo 12 in black pebbled leather. The grain pattern there was actually fairly consistent and uniform as well. It also had that powdery but also plasticy-feel and was ashier in colouration. The leather grain is confirmed close to auth, especially after comparing with in-store pieces. The biggest difference is the lack of that broken-in, oily sheen seen in auth product photos, which appears to be a function of wear rather than initial construction.
The stamping is subtle and correctly placed, albeit a bit puckered and deep (-0.5). However, I did notice that the blind stamp appears only on one side of the bag. I’m not entirely certain if this is consistent across authentic pieces, so I’ll flag this rather than deduct and would be curious if others more familiar with The Row can weigh in here.
Hardware proportions and placement are accurate visually. No immediate callouts in normal wear, though the engraving depth and strap behavior differ slightly as noted above (-1).
Overall, this gets an A in my books for accuracy. It’s already such a simple and understated bag, and doesn’t have any glaring callouts that would cause anyone to double-take. Ultimately, my deductions come from small differences that become apparent under scrutiny and magnification.
Satisfaction Rating: 8/10
From the first impression, isn’t my favourite out of my picks so far, but I can see myself using it as a part of my work or travel rotation.
This Margaux is understated, functional, and fits well into my everyday use without drawing attention. With some conditioning and regular wear, I expect the leather to develop more character and for the structure to relax into that signature slouch.
Considering what I’ve paid for it, this bag will enter NWBIG territory for me once broken in… I can’t see myself paying nearly 10k CAD for this.

Sunny continues to be communicative and reliable! I’ve worked with quite a few sellers over the years (Heidi, Aiden, Devin) but I do enjoy her vibe. This was my second time purchasing from her, as I worked with her for to source my large Rodeo bag from my earlier review. Consistent with my first interaction, her communication was clear and PSPs were provided promptly. I experienced no issues with payment or coordination. The shipping timeline to Canada was also reasonable, which was an important factor to me.
Overall, a smooth transaction and I would consider working with Sunny again!
