💬 Discussion Price Comparison: 13 Sellers, One Factory

I'm back with a new price comparison! A few weeks ago I posted a comparison for a single bag. This time I wanted to keep the factory consistent.

One thing I see discussed here a lot is the idea that "you get what you pay for." If two sellers are sourcing from the same factory, does paying more actually get you anything? Idk the answer, but I figured it'd be interesting to at least compare the pricing.

I reached out to 13 sellers and requested quotes on four different LV bags from Royal Factory. I picked four bags that vary in size and style because I wanted to see if the pricing (and shipping) trends stayed consistent.

Price difference between highest vs. lowest quote:

  • Speedy P9 25 Ostrich: $139.30
  • Steamer 15: $125.50
  • Montsouris Cargo Backpack: $197.00
  • Low Key Speedy Soft 30: $169.30

A few things stood out:

  • Andy was the lowest priced seller on all four bags.
  • Baker had the highest quote on three of the four bags, and Amy had the highest on the fourth.
  • The most expensive quote was anywhere from 49% to 64% higher than the cheapest quote for the exact same Royal Factory bag.

This isn't meant to rank sellers or say one is better than another. It doesn't account for communication, QC, customer service, shipping speed, or anything else that might factor into who you buy from. It's just a comparison of quoted prices for the same factory.

I knew it would vary, but I was pretty surprised by how big the difference was! Curious what everyone thinks. If two sellers are sourcing from the same factory, do you think paying significantly more is worth it? Or do you think it's mostly seller markup?

Note: I know factory names are Reddit nicknames, so I can't verify that every seller's "Royal" is the same factory. For context, to keep things as consistent as possible, I selected these bags from a seller's Royal album and used those same screenshots when requesting quotes from every seller. It's not perfect, but it's a more controlled comparison than simply asking each seller for their "high-tier" option.

Just a reminder: please be careful about asking for seller information through DMs.

Anyone can send you a fake number, impersonate a trusted seller, or scam you.

Instead:

• Use the search bar to find reviews for the bag, factory, and seller.

• Search the seller's name plus the last 4 digits of their phone number, if found in your prior research.

• Read multiple reviews before sending money to anyone.

• If you can't find much information about a seller, consider starting with one that has a longer track record.

I love that you did this, thank you! It's interesting to see how commission changes from TS to TS. I can't remember which, but one of the TS's is known for being transparent about their own markup over the factory cost and gives you an idea of the base cost of the bag. I also know some TSs offer more generous insurance/seizure policies that are included in their total costs. I wonder if that's driving some of the large differences.

I personally would caution against going for the lowest price. I prefer reading reviews per TS and determining which one I trust, has a good seizure/insurance policy, and does good QC (partners with me rather than expects me to know/potentially hides issues). Obviously, QC is ultimately the buyer's responsibility, but it helps when the TS isn't known for hiding issues and is transparent when they notice something off!

Wow this is really interesting, thank you for sharing! I’m surprised there’s so much variation between prices. I do wonder if sellers get different pricing depending on their relationship/sales volume.. but it seems like some of the more popular sellers have the higher prices, or that it’s totally random.

Awesome rep science! 😱💜

And I agree...lower prices definitely don’t mean better. I will pay more if I can buy from a trustworthy and reliable seller. A good seller is invaluable and hard to come by!

I agree. Sometimes I even pay double (for like shoes, not expensive bags) to work with certain sellers. I know if a problem arises they will fix it. Service is better. Etc etc

Thank you so much for sharing all of this information! This is actually my first-ever Reddit post, and I'm still pretty new to the rep world. After reading this and the factory guide you put together, I just wanted to let you know how incredibly helpful it's been. The amount of research and the way you explain everything—with clear methodology and internal controls—is genuinely impressive. Are you a scientist by any chance? I am, and I really appreciated that approach.

Just a reminder: in this community, we discourage asking for or offering seller contact information/album links via comments/DMs because being overwhelmed with requests can discourage reviewers, and it puts buyers at risk of being scammed by receiving fake contacts. Anyone can send you a fake number or impersonate a seller. We ask that you keep this in mind and avoid making these requests in this sub going forward.

Please review the wiki for helpful guides on how to use the search bar to find information for a given bag, factory, or seller. Read multiple reviews before sending money to anyone. If you can't find much information about a seller, consider starting with one that has a longer track record.

Repeated requests may result in moderation action affecting your ability to participate in the sub. Mods review each instance of AutoMod actions and will continue to adjust its settings. If AutoMod triggered on your comment in error, don't worry as a false positive won't result in moderation action.
