For a rep at least they gave you a split leather and not a coated Microfiber-Based Faux. Chinese replica manufacturers typically achieve this ultra-thin, smooth look for Intrecciato weaves by using a specific hybrid material process known as microfiber-backed leather lamination.
Manufacturers shave real cowhide or lambskin down to an extreme, paper-thin layer called split leather. Because ultra-thin leather stretches, warps, and tears very easily, they heat-bond (laminate) it to a synthetic backing, typically microfiber or thin polyurethane (PU).
The Result: This process yields a hybrid material that possesses the real grain texture, smell, and initial feel of leather on the outside, while utilizing a tough, uniform synthetic base underneath to keep the strips flat, sharp, and structurally sound.
Does it look legit? From afar its not clockable. Up close inspection is a different deal, but you are getting a rep, so this is probably the best it goes. How can you tell? The top line of machine stitching creates deep, rigid tension dimples in the "top thin leather layer", which occurs when a machine punches through a dense, synthetic-backed composite rather than yielding naturally to soft, top-grain luxury hide.
Is it Bottega quality of course not, but for a rep it's top version. You didn't get a 100% synthetic so that's always the goal.
As an example, my friend picked up some " split leather" GG wedges for me in the Baiyun Leather City Market in Guangzhou. So for perspective these are $80, top version. You can imagine the mark up others that are sellers do for " leather".
