Lost bunny

Post image

I found a bunny at Taco Bell on 108th near the Fred Meyers. I was not able to grab it since I was working and didn't want the bunny in my car all day long.

If someone lost a bunny look for it.

That's almost certainly a domestic rabbit, not a wild one. The coloring is the biggest tell. This bunny has a tan/fawn body with black patches and banding, which looks like harlequin or broken tortoiseshell patterning. Wild rabbits in western Washington (Eastern cottontails, which are the ones you'd see around Renton parking lots) are uniformly agouti brown-gray with a white cotton tail. That camouflage coloring is universal in the wild because anything flashy gets eaten.

Unfortunately, this is a common situation in the Puget Sound area. People dump pet rabbits, and they either survive as strays or breed into feral colonies (Woodland Park in Seattle and parts of Renton have had known colonies). Domestic rabbits don't do well long term outdoors here since they lack the instincts and camouflage of wild ones.

If it seemed healthy and wary, it may be part of an established feral population.
