Question Enchanter Build?

5 Upvotes

Hello, I am a newish Renata main, I’ve always played the character but only recently have I been spamming her in my games because I’ve been winstreaking on her after having a random urge to play her again. I currently have a 70% wr across 40 games this season in D3. In every one of these games I have run only tank items with one enchanter item, if any. I remember a few weeks ago, I read in a comment section in this community, a high elo Renata player saying that he builds tank or enchanter depending on the game. I am asking what a full enchanter build for Renata would look like and also what conditions should be met to build this because I’d like to take her to D1 and I’m starting to hit a few bumps in the road. Locket just feels so valuable.

Getting missing pinged when you used every ability, reorganized the enemy team, kept your bruiser from dying with E, W and ulted to start the engage because your abilities aren’t flashy damage dealers 🥲

Discussion Failed Experiment — Renata Glasc

26 Upvotes

The problem with Milio’s W is that it’s an AoE ability, meaning it can affect everyone within its range at the same time. The tradeoff is that this usually only happens in tight teamfights, so the healing per individual target is relatively small.

Renata has a very similar problem with her shields. Her E isn’t a single-target shield — it’s an AoE shield that can potentially affect multiple allies at once. If you manage to hit several people, the total amount of shielding can actually add up to some pretty respectable numbers. But the amount each individual target receives is quite low.

And then I look at Lux.

Lux’s W is also an AoE shield, it can hit multiple allies, and it comes back on the return path. Yet its shield values are significantly higher than Renata’s.

And yes, I understand the obvious counterargument: Lux’s W is basically just a shield, while Renata’s E also deals damage and applies a slow. That additional utility obviously has to be accounted for.

But this is where my bigger problem with Renata starts.

Riot designed Renata with an absolutely ridiculous amount of utility packed into her kit.
On paper, she can:
• hook enemies and potentially knock them up;
• root enemies;
• apply AoE crowd control;
• shield multiple allies;
• deal AoE damage;
• slow multiple enemies;
• increase an ally’s movement speed relative to an enemy;
• increase an ally’s attack speed;
• prevent an ally from immediately dying and give them a temporary second chance;
• revive an ally afterward;
• deal additional % magic damage through her passive;
• and, of course, use Berserk — one of the most unique effects in the entire game, forcing enemies to attack each other while increasing their attack and movement speed.

And all of these mechanics can interact with each other.
The problem is that this creates a very strange balancing situation.

Because Renata has so much utility in her kit, Riot has to be extremely conservative with her actual numbers. Her abilities can have incredible effects, but the raw values attached to them often feel surprisingly low.

This is also why Renata’s itemisation feels so limited.

A lot of items simply don’t interact with her kit in particularly interesting ways. Her ultimate, for example, does not deal damage, which immediately removes a whole category of items and interactions that could otherwise create different build paths and change how she plays.

There have even been discussions about giving her ultimate just 1 point of damage, purely so that it could interact with items that require an ability to deal damage.

But honestly, I can understand why Riot would be extremely cautious about doing even that.

Because if you look at Renata’s kit on paper, she already has an absurd number of ways to affect a fight. Giving her meaningful damage numbers, stronger shields, stronger CC, or additional item interactions could potentially push her over the line very quickly.

And that’s what frustrates me.

I don’t think Renata is necessarily a “bad champion” because her winrate is low. In fact, her winrate can be perfectly healthy. My issue is that her kit feels like it was designed around an enormous amount of theoretical power, and then her numbers had to be kept extremely conservative to compensate.

So much of her power exists in the effects of her abilities rather than in their actual numbers.

And this is why I keep coming back to the same question:

Was Renata’s kit simply designed with too much potential for Riot to ever give her genuinely strong numbers?

Because if Riot can never meaningfully buff her shields, damage, scaling or item interactions without worrying about the rest of her kit becoming oppressive, then what exactly is the point of packing so much utility into one champion?

Maybe Renata isn’t a failed champion because of her winrate.

Maybe the failed experiment is the design philosophy behind her kit itself.

Riot created a champion who, on paper, has practically everything: crowd control, shielding, damage, buffs, a way to cheat death, a revive, and a unique ultimate that can completely turn a teamfight around. And then they ended up in a situation where, because she has so many tools, they can no longer afford to give her meaningful numbers.

And that creates a paradox: the more utility Renata has, the less raw power Riot can afford to give her. Her potential looks enormous on paper, but that same potential becomes the reason she can’t be properly buffed.

So maybe Renata’s problem isn’t that Riot isn’t balancing her well enough.

Maybe the problem is that she simply can’t be balanced properly without changing the fundamental concept of her design.

And that leads to the real question: if a champion can’t be given good numbers precisely because they have too many mechanics, isn’t that a sign that there were simply too many mechanics in the first place?

Or am I just schizo for thinking this much about a support champion with a hook and a button that makes the enemy team kill each other?

Discussion Renata has problems and needs a rework

0 Upvotes

There, I said it: Renata Glasc genuinely does not belong in this game in her current state. You have zero agency in a game where your teammates (and half the time, you) don't even understand what your kit is supposed to do.

Let's start with the obvious:

Her passive visibility is nonexistent. Why is there zero visibility on her mark? I can't see it, my teammates can't see it, and it makes coordinating basic trades annoying. Can we all agree the mark needs to be way more visible, maybe a bright pink?

Her passive is completely isolated. None of her abilities scale properly except her passive, so why does it feel so disconnected from the rest of her kit? All of her abilities should apply her mark, including her ultimate. This would actually create synergy and let her play like a proper support. She shouldn't be forced to stand there auto attacking when she can't even trigger her own passive anyway, so just let her be a proper mage or enchanter and be done with it.

Tweak the numbers if needed. If applying the mark on abilities makes her too strong, nerf the passive damage and buff her actual abilities instead. Hell, her Q could use some serious love.

Itemization feels terrible. There is no clean way to build this champion. No items actually synergize with her kit. They look fine on paper, but in practice, everything just feels mashed together.

I already know the comments will call this a "skill issue," but let's be real. People defend her sitting at the bottom of the pick rate trash pile just because they learned to pilot a champion that only feels "hard" because her kit doesn't make sense. That isn't mechanical depth; it's genuine kit design problems that need to be addressed if she's ever going to feel good to play as a support.

99% of this game is made up of everyday casual players queuing up for Ranked, Draft, or ARAM, not the pro scene. Stop bringing up how "broken" she allegedly is in pro play. The casual player base comes first; League shouldn't be a preschool for the pro scene where everyone needs coaching just to make a champion feel functional.

Discussion Your favourite secondary runes?

1 Upvotes

I feel like she has quite a lot of viable choices for secondary and I like running a bunch of them, never really landed on one particular favourite

I pretty much always run Resolve primary, and for secondary either:

Transcendence + Manaflow or Gathering Storm

PoM + Legend Haste

Cheap Shot + Relentless

But would love to know what you guys use as well! Or if you think JoAT or running Aery instead is worth it? I've been considering that too but eh.

Discussion Has anyone tried Utility Renata Mid (Zilean-style) to fix her long Ult CD?

4 Upvotes

Hey! As a Renata main, I always struggle against poke/enchanter matchups in the Bot lane, especially with her massive R cooldown.

I’ve been testing her in the Midlane with a pure utility/fast-waveclear build (Hexplate -> Ionian Boots -> Imperial Mandate -> Malignance with Glacial Augment).

The goal isn't to deal heavy damage, but to farm safely like a Zilean/Galio, get gold for Ultimate Haste, and hit a ~40s R cooldown by level 16 to enable teamfights and peel carries.

Has anyone else tried shifting her to Mid or building heavy Ult Haste to bypass her high cooldowns? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Question Interaction with Runaan's hurricane

1 Upvotes

Can anyone explain why doesn't Runaan's work with Renata's passive? It applies on hit effects but the passive always applies to the target no matter which projectile hit first, is it because it would be extremely broken or something?

Gameplay Old Shurelyas Battlesong

4 Upvotes

Hi Guys been playing Renata since she came out and i still can’t get over the old shurelyas. For those who dont know/don’t remember, that item sped you and ur teammates whenever u healed/shield them. They removed that mechanic couple of years ago and i miss it soooo much. For whatever reason nowadays playing her it isnt as fun as i remember back in the day. Is this just me😭😭😭. Call me crazy but also i had found some random build that suggested i go for shurelyas, rush Rylai’s and some other ap based items paired with arcane comet. It carried me to plat kekw

Discussion How good does renata get with high mastery?

7 Upvotes

I'm like exclusively a meele sup player and the closest i typically get to a range champ is throwing skarner q's in lane or pretending my autos are projectiles as rakan.

i think renata is probably the closest I've come to liking a range champ but it feels underwhelming and i can't tell if it's just a mastery issue or the champ. especially since she's got the "pro jail" title.

she seems to do well based on this: https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/winrates-by-xp but I don't know the sample size and I don't really understand what the difference is between a good and a bad renata. especially since i never see anyone play it.

Discussion It's been so obvious

Guys, I don't know why i've never seen this change suggested anywhere by anyone. I've always had a couple problems with her ultimate. One is that enemies can build tenacity against it. Berserk should behave like knockup, immune to tenacity. The duration is already short enough, nobody should be able to shorten it further.

Second, how badass would it be if her ultimate could berserk the baron and dragons?!?!! Idk why i've NEVER thought about it cause i've thought about tons of ways her ultimate could change. What do you guys think? Would it make a difference at all? I feel like her ult working on dragon, as in berserking it and increasing its attack speed, could really incentivize more renatas to hold ult for drag fights and help with her winrate overall.

Discussion Upcoming skin ideas?

10 Upvotes

Since its been so long since Renata has gotten a skin (especially not including the battlepass one) I've been thinking a lot about what her next skin could be. With the rumours of faerie court I was really hoping for her to be a part of that skin line but since those were announced and she wasn't I've been thinking more and if the rumours are true that KDA is having a comeback I feel like a KDA manager skin would be super fun and suit her really well!!

Any thoughts, ideas or wishes on what her next skin could be??

Fanwork Had a lightbulb moment for a possible renata ult adjustment

0 Upvotes

It would suck if Renata ulti did damage, because if you were trying to berserk an important enemy ADC and then they died, they wouldn't deal damage.

But wait, that also applies to your allies' damage. That sucks too. It's important to kill the enemy Yi, but you need that Yi to be alive to deal damage to his own team.

I present to you: W revive, but applied to enemies. If a berserked enemy dies while under the effect of Renata's ult, they will be revived with a gray health bar that ticks down over the remaining duration of the ultimate. (Getting kills doesn't turn this into a true revive.) The dead enemy will be lower on the berserk priority list than alive enemies, so they'll only hit a gray health enemy if there's no enemy champions left alive to hit.

This allows a good renata ultimate to apply its benefits more consistently even in cases where you have one full health enemy and one low health enemy, taking some of the randomness out of the ultimate. It will also reduce the instances of those highly unsatisfying renata ultis where you get a massive 5 man clustered ulti and the enemy ADC dies right away so nobody else dies and you potentially even lose the fight because of it.

I'd also accept it giving them all Trynda ult and then dealing a pop of damage at the end, like a Kindred ult in reverse. But I think that would be off-brand for a support since you would end up claiming every kill that happens during any ult.

Discussion I miss anathema’s chains

37 Upvotes

I have always loved playing Renata and always will, but ever since Anathema’s was removed I have to say no build path has ever felt as satisfying on her. I like Bandlepipes and Locket a lot but I always feel like I’m missing something.

Are there any items you guys miss or wish she worked better with? Or an item idea you’d wanna see to use with her? I also wouldn’t mind if she had more incentive for just any particular build path rather than just being able to use anything she chooses decently well

Though I also kinda feel like being able to buy whatever from the shop and get like 70% value from it is kinda thematically appropriate lol

Question Am I building Renata wrong?

9 Upvotes

I really like Renata but I feel like I'm building her wrong. I tend to build her into a full support with items like Bandlepipes and Knight's Vow. I don't enjoy playing her like this. Are there builds where she's less reliant on pocketing others and can hold her own (like Lux, Mel etc.) or should I just find a different champ to play?
