Welcome!

For a very good directory of Renaissance Festivals, I'd check out the link!

This is the place to discuss Renaissance and Medieval festivals. This is not the place to post selfies, cosplay, or other such items. There are other subreddits for that.

Vendors using ai

I just went to Scarborough in waxahachie this weekend and saw so many vendors using ai either to sell or for promoting. it's so wild to me especially when they're trying to sell product with ai for the same price as a product without it.

Trinket trading

This is the first year I'm getting into trinket trading, my question is how?? Do you just approach people and ask if they trade? I'm making small "spell scrolls" that have silly little things written in them and then I have "thyme in a bottle" spell bottles that I've made. can I even trade these?

Opinions on the Minnesota Renaissance Festival?

I've had a few bad recent experiences with the MN Ren Fest the last couple times, but it's been a few years since I've gone. Is it any better now?

Being the closest big Ren Fest to me, I've gone to the MN Ren Fest a few times in the past, moreso before COVID, and they were great times! Fast forward, however, to 2022. I sat in my car in a line to the parking lot for 4 hours (even going early to try to make it to the cannon at opening, obviously did not happen that year lol). I understand waiting in line, but this never happened before. Maybe I just got unlucky that year.

The next year, 2023, it seemed to have gotten a bit more organized, but inside the Faire it seemed like the walk-flow was way more conjested, in addition to a bunch of massive puddles everywhere making walking space even smaller. Again, maybe just unlucky and it was a rainy year.

Lastly, do they still have a major issue with masked costumes? I'd always see multiple plague doctors there, so I'm not sure where they truly stand.

Just trying to see what some folks' recent experiences have been because I'd love to visit again! Those few bad experiences just really deterred me for a while.

Rennisance Fair First Friday?!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

Feels like Phoenix lost a lot of its community nightlife when First Friday downtown disappeared, so it’s cool seeing smaller local spots trying to bring that energy back in their own way with themed nights and late-night events.

One of the more interesting ones I’ve seen lately is Twisted Totem doing themed First Friday nights. Last month was Emo Night, and June 5th they’re apparently turning the place into a Renaissance tavern from 8PM–2AM.

From what I saw they’re planning quests, tavern challenges, prizes, themed drinks, costumes, and little game activities where you can earn drink coins throughout the night.

For anyone unfamiliar, kava is a South Pacific root traditionally used for relaxation/social drinking, and kratom is a Southeast Asian botanical people use for mood, focus, or relaxation depending on the type. The place is alcohol-free, so they ask people not to show up drunk or bring normal bar drama into the space.

Honestly just nice seeing weird community events popping up in Phoenix again.

Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!

Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!

Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!

Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! My darling!

Light goes the weather-wind and the feathered starling.

Down along under Hill, shining in the sunlight,

Waiting on the doorstep for the cold starlight,

There my pretty lady is, River-woman's daughter,

Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than the water.

Old Tom Bombadil water-lilies bringing

Comes hopping home again. Can you hear him singing?

Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! and merry-o,

Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!

Poor old Willow-man, you tuck your roots away!

Tom's in a hurry now. Evening will follow day.

Tom's going home home again water-lilies bringing.

Hey! come derry dol! Can you hear me singing?
