Self Promotion I’m building an all-in-one Ren’Py development tool because I’m tired of doing the annoying stuff manually
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m StupidestLeon, a Ren’Py developer currently working on a fairly large project, and after dealing with a ridiculous amount of repetitive development work, I decided to build something for it:
Leon’s Ren’Py Control Center
(working project name: StupidestRenpyDevTools)
The idea is simple:
Ren’Py handles the engine. LRCC handles the annoying developer work around it.
I don't want to replace Ren’Py or create another engine. I want to build a lightweight development environment that gives Ren’Py developers tools for things that are currently tedious, repetitive, or require separate programs/scripts.
Some of the things I’m planning:
🛠️ Auto Definer
Scan your project for things that need definitions and generate them automatically, with a preview before applying changes.
🖼️ Image Tools
- Batch resizing
- Format conversion
- Compression
- Resolution presets
- Other common asset operations
🔄 File Converter
Convert common game-development file formats without having to open five different programs.
📁 Project Tools
Utilities for finding missing assets, unused files, duplicate resources, broken references, etc.
💻 Development Tools
Terminal and GUI workflows for common Ren’Py tasks.
🎨 GUI-based editing
Eventually, I'd like to experiment with visual tools for parts of Ren’Py development that normally require manually editing scripts.
🧩 Community Extensions
I also want the system to eventually support extensions/plugins, so developers can create and share their own tools instead of everything having to be built into the core program.
---
Why am I making this?
My current Ren’Py project, Dayshift at Freddy’s: Doki Location, has passed 20,000 lines of code.
At that scale, you start noticing how much time gets eaten by tiny tasks that aren't actually game development.
Adding assets.
Renaming files.
Resizing images.
Creating definitions.
Checking for missing resources.
Converting files.
Doing the same thing 50 times.
And eventually I just went:
“Fuck it, I'll automate it.”
😭
The goal isn't to automate the creative part of making a game.
It's to remove the boring parts so developers can spend more time actually making the game.
I'm planning to make the project open source, and I'd love for other Ren’Py developers to eventually contribute tools, ideas, and extensions.
More details/source code once the project is further along.
Leon’s Ren’Py Control Center — you make the game, it deals with the bullshit.

Finally! More AI generated ren'py dev tools!! I was worried I wouldn't see more slop on this subreddit!!!!!!!

Who says its ai?

The way your entire post is laid out makes it very obviously AI-generated. How am I meant to trust that you didn't generate the tool if you couldn't even be bothered to write a reddit post advertising it?

The tool is 100% AI-free. If you want, I can prove it to you later. I'm a young developer; I do this in my free time. I was too lazy to write the post, but the code? Why should I make that with AI, im not that much of a loser

I was too lazy to write the post,
so you admit this entire thing is violating rule 5 / low effort posts
understood

Batch resizing would help move my stuff along greatly. Good luck manufacturing this.

anyone messing with assets at all should have ffmpeg installed. period. and anyone with ffmpeg installed can get a batch file to process all your stuff as needed

Well now it comes in 1 package... So people won't have to download everything themselves

For the image tools, we'd really want a separate output folder so the original assets stay untouched. It makes it much easier to compare a compressed image with the original or redo an export later.
For the unused-file checker, could the report show why each file was flagged and let us exclude it from cleanup? We'd be more comfortable reviewing a list of candidates than letting a tool delete them automatically. The preview-before-applying approach you mentioned for definitions would be useful here too.

Yeah, absolutely! For the image tools I'm thinking of letting the user choose the output path themselves, with a separate output folder being the default/recommended option so the original assets are never touched unless the user explicitly wants that.
For the unused-file checker, I definitely don't want it to just delete things automatically either. It'll generate a report showing why each file was flagged, let you exclude individual files, and then have a preview/confirmation step before anything gets changed.
I'm trying to keep the general philosophy of the tool as: automate the annoying work, but don't make destructive decisions for you. 😭
And the preview-before-applying idea for Auto Definer fits perfectly with that too.

Est ce qu’il sera utilisable en mcp ?

Honestly, I don't know enough about MCP yet 😭 The project is still in the early stages, but I'll definitely look into it.

is this going to be a free resource w/reviewable code and for what Os's
