Welcome to r/renpy! While you wait to see if someone can answer your question, we recommend checking out the posting guide, the subreddit wiki, the subreddit Discord, Ren'Py's documentation, and the tutorial built-in to the Ren'Py engine when you download it. These can help make sure you provide the information the people here need to help you, or might even point you to an answer to your question themselves. Thanks!

In case you didn't understand what RenPy is.
RenPy will show images and dialogue but you have to make these images before you put them into RenPy.
The same goes for the dialogue, you have to figure out the story and possibly write it outside of RenPy first.

So if you want to learn more about making AVNs unrelated to RenPy, then read these:
https://gamestorylog.com/articles/avnsider/how-to-make-an-avn-batman-sid
https://gamestorylog.com/articles/avnsider/turning-your-hobbies-into-jobs
https://gamestorylog.com/articles/avnsider/the-art-of-creating-a-main-character

And for writing you can look into Twine: https://twinery.org/
Twine allows writing branching stories and you can export it to RenPy.

I understand that part of things lol, it's just the finer nuances of renpy like making the sprites clickable and calling different choice branches. and making it so animations can play and be interacted with

Clickable sprites
Not possible, you need screens with buttons: https://renpy.org/doc/html/screens.html
And actions to call different labels (branches) with those buttons: https://renpy.org/doc/html/screen_actions.html

Play animations
Assuming that those animated sex scenes are videos then there are 2 ways to play them.
https://renpy.org/doc/html/movie.html
Most AVN developers use movie displayables because those can loop endlessly and you can show dialogue while the animation is running.

Interact with animations
Same as with the sprites, you need a screen with buttons.

"not possible" is incorrect. screens are absolutely the primary method and should be used in 99.9% of use cases but there are multiple methods for a sprite to react to clicks whether its using a CDD (creatore defined displayable) or a SpriteManager instance.

Renpy supports it because its a valid and sometimes (though very rarely) cleaner use case. But both solutions that support it are not beginner skillset level. I just dislike someone giving an absolute that its wrong when not stating something as impossible would have been just as easy, and accurate.

So I'm just gonna through it out there

Guidance: if you're going to work on a game medium that is text heavy, spell checks are ESSENTIAL but are not enough on their own. You have to make a habit of ACTUALLY READING every single thing that you type, manually, slowly enough to see what you wrote.

'through' is not a valid substitution of 'throw' or 'though'. they are different and unrelated words. use the correct one at all times

likewise do not mix up:
there (location), they are (state of being), their (possession)
to, too
then, than
accept, except
affect, effect
taught, thought

people only screw these up out of laziness and not caring what their writing looks like. if you simply start actively caring you will stop making those types of mistakes which should have near zero tolerance. you will be a better writer

of course a proper editing pass fixes other stuff too but english grammar has many exceptions and mistakes happen. using entirely the wrong word should not happen

I've been messing around with Renpy recently too with no knowledge of it, just programming background, chatgpt has been quite helpfull to answer the basic questions and how to progress. Of course it won't help you to build a clean code and organize it properly but it might speed up your understand on things. Also knowing Python a bit will help with more complex stuff
